Bilit Rainforest Lodge

The location was good, not far from the river. The bungalows were nice,stilted,the large enough, but bathroom and toilets were in poor conditions. We liked the large covered terrace, comfortable wooden chair an hammock. It was pleasan to relax there , listen the sounds of forrest. The lodge was built on mud,, so the vegataion was not so nice. The stuff was excellent familiar, the food very good, and the lodge has good facilities: pinpong table,foto exhibition aso. We missed the flowers and plants.

There is plenty of authentic food served for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We spent two nights here at the lodge as part of a Trip A Deal Tour. However, the lodge is in need of some TLC. Staff are all friendly. Personally I would not recommend staying at the lodge.

We stayed at Bilit Rainforest Lodge for 2 nights with our birding group so the lodge was not chosen by us. The cabins on stilts were spacious and the bed was comfortable but the bathroom needed renovation to bring it up to modern standards. The water out of the tap was an unappetizing brown color and we weren't keen on even taking a shower in it. On our final morning the water was off completely throughout the lodge but fortunately was back on by the time we returned from our morning boat excursion. The AC was rather weak. The wooden boardwalks to the cabins were a bit rickety with gaps in the wood planks and uneven areas representing trip hazards. Those could use some attention. There was no WiFi anywhere during our visit even though they claim to have it. The food was OK but nothing special. What we enjoyed the most were the boat excursions in the morning and afternoon. Cruising along the river was wonderful and we got good views of many birds and mammals (including pygmy elephants). If we visited the area again we would choose a different lodge - we saw several that looked very nice.

A wonderful 2 nights in the midst of the rainforest with 4 brilliant river cruises on which we saw all of the Kinabatangan Big 5 plus many others - such a treat. How the guides spotted some of the wildlife is incredible. If you want to be off the grid and experience the wildlife, I thoroughly recommend this lodge. The staff are all very friendly, the buffet food is tasty and plentiful, the rooms are huge and have air conditioning and plentiful hot water. The Lodge rents out good binoculars, cheaply. The bar takes cards, but you need cash to pay your room tax, to hire binoculars, and for any additional cruises. Note, other than the air con and hot water, the accommodation is pretty basic, but you wouldn't expect anything else in such a remote location.

Not knowing quite what to expect from our agent's arrangements, we could not really ask for more. The bedrooms (most important) are all screened and have air-conditioning. The rest is open-air but that all adds to the experience. The staff are helpful and kind, the meals are of quality local cuisine and the cruises and walks are all well organised.
