Dokchampa Guesthouse

Dokchampa guesthouse may not be the right choice in this fantastic island world if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing, natural and friendly environment. I moved in here shortly before the end of the pandemic because I thought the rooms were very nice. The owner asks me to pay monthly in advance, which is quite normal under these circumstances. But very soon it turned out to become a nightmare for me. In the first two weeks there was now Wi-Fi available here in the room. Then, there are two big roosters right in the back yard who take more than pride in wishing a very good morning to anyone and everyone who wants to know and even those who don't want to know from 3:00 am onward. In the late morning they are exhausted and take a nap but only to continue crowing refreshed. Shortly after moving in, I discovered several ant colonies in the bath and living room. However, I found among them a kind of tiny, tiny ants that like to wander through the bed even at night and wanted to eat me up, causing me great discomfort regardless of my well-deserved night sleep. This is beyond annoying, especially as the owners make no attempts to do anything serious about it. So I had to live with them because they built their nests in the partition walls and roofs, and were out of reach without real effort. And these are exactly the little ants that like to move around in technical devices such as smartphones, laptops etcetera because it is warm and dry inside, like in my case. The end of this story is that they destroyed my tablet with an irreparable short circuit. What an expensive stay at this vacation home.   In front of my room less than 1 meter from the entrance is a brand new concrete road. So I literally stepped straight from my front door onto the street. The fishermen here start their work quite early in the morning before dawn. When they drove by with their noisy and broken motorcycles at 4:30 am in the morning, I literally felt like they were driving through the room next to my head. This problem exacerbated during the day when large trucks drove by. On the Mekong side where the balcony is located, there is a lot of boat traffic happening all day long and the motorboat engines are pretty loud. This is only surpassed by the many children, moving and screaming around the guesthouse using it as their playground. Between the stone house and the bungalows, there is a large concrete trough that is always filled with water and mosquito larvae. So please don't be surprised if in the later evening and at night it's just swarming with mosquitoes that ask you to donate blood and incidentally carry the pathogens of malaria and dengue fever. Unfortunately there is no mosquito net in the room. I feel a little sorry for Mr. Vixay, the man of this family, because he is a really kind-hearted, very hardworking man.
