If you are a Kiwi, and you have exactly the same personality as the owners, and as New Zealanders more generally, this accommodation is for you. If you are quiet, low-volume-voice, introverted, shy, cold, diffident, “stiff-upper-lip” British, and uncommunicative, you’ll love it here. But it’s a lodge, not a hotel, with no restaurant, and with no nearby restaurant, and so you’ll have to use the kitchen to cook your own meals. If you don’t have the right personality, which in this case, most probably means having the right passport (Kiwi or British), and not the wrong passport (for instance, Southern European, Italian, Latin American, etc.), then you will want to give this place a miss. You won’t fit in, and the owners will certainly not try to make you feel comfortable when you don’t fit in. They themselves are New Zealanders of the cold, distant, judgemental, inward-looking, and thoroughly provincial type. They are the Kiwi equivalents of “Little-Englanders”; but then perhaps most New Zealanders are. Otherwise, the Endless Summer Lodge is clean and well run. But look elsewhere if your personality requires that you have a more “anonymous” experience, or if you are looking for broad, open-minded, tolerant acceptance.
