Fairfield Inn & Suites Birmingham Colonnade/Grandview

Love the staff. Location is good. However, they have new policies that have me looking elsewhere, which was implemented around August this year. This is not a Marriott policy, it’s a policy specific to this location, which resulted in them authorizing 350-700 dollars over my stay on multiple occasions. The process that caused this is complicated, and the solution for this issue was not reasonable. This policy was not explained at checkin, even the front desk wasn’t aware of the issue until I figured it out after multiple occurrences. I was a regular there but have decided that loyalty only goes so far and will be trying a different hotel during my next trip.

We went to see our granddaughter play in a softball tournament. Stayed Friday and Saturday. There is a huge shopping center less than a mile away that has some great restaurants. The property was surrounded by office buildings and other hotels. The rooms were nice and clean. Check-in was fast and friendly. We were on the top floor (4th) and it was pretty quiet. They serve breakfast every morning. The usual complimentary breakfast offerings. Saturday evening, there were dozens of people hanging out and watching football all over the lobby and breakfast area. We had an issue with a slow draining tub, so we mentioned it on the way out Saturday morning. When we returned to the room early afternoon, it had been taken care of and everything cleaned up. There were sports teams staying here and at nearby hotels, but we never had a problem with noise or kids running around. We would stay again if we were in that area.

Wonderful location and very nice service. We didn't need much, but it was a great stay. Hope to return soon as we have a daughter attending a nearby college and will want to visit with her periodically!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Fairfield Inn. Friendly staff. Clean. Large room. Basic but included breakfast. The basics were provided really well. The hotel also looked lovely but we didn't have time to try it out.

Hotel was fine. Better maintained than most but it is new. Bed was comfortable and room quiet. Breakfast was better selection than many Fairfield’s. Staff was friendly and helpful-but as with all 8 Fairfield's we stayed with this trip not one recognized us as club members . The rooms in the newer hotels are very dimly lit even with all lights on. One thing I didn’t like was that the tv(s) came on as soon as we opened the door and it was loud. If I want to watch the tv I will turn it on.

I am a Marriott loyalist. I'm a Platinum elite and stay in Marriott hotels typically 30+ nights a year. I choose Marriott because of their vast portfolio and typically their service and offerings. I spent a weekend in Birmingham for pleasure for this trip and chose this location based on multiple factors including the newness and ratings on Marriott. This location is in a cluster of about 4-5 hotels and managed by the same company. The location itself is pretty convenient as it's off of two highways and there's a stripmall across the street with many food options. I arrive and it's pretty full, a few buses are nearby too. Turns out there's a girls lacrosse tournament or something of the like in town. I check in and wasn't acknowledged as a loyalty member and was given my keys. No offer of welcome waters either. No biggie, maybe they're in the room? I get to my room and while it's newer, the furniture is already frayed and looking worn. I leave to get dinner and on my way back in, I ask about the water because there isn't any in the room. The front desk manager, I don't recall her name but she was nice enough and who checked me in, informed me that she had them but wasn't handing them out because of reported 'leaky bottles'. I told her I'd take my chances and thanked her. I ended up turning in early as I worked that day and then drove the 2 hours there. I get awaken between 11-midnight by neighbors being very loud, tv blaring, coughing, a melange of noise. Very groggy and disoriented, I call the front desk after messaging them on the app and getting zero response in ten minutes. The night auditor was very rude and short. Asking me simply "what room was it?" I stated that I had no idea, i think it was from one side but there was a lot of noise. He stated "I can't help you unless you tell me where the noise is." I said "Seriously?" He said "Yes, I can't leave the desk." and hung up. I was furious. He then started messaging back on the app being passive aggressive and antagonistic. He called me later after I thought I identified the location, rude again, I ask him "Why are you giving me attitude?" He said "Because you answered the phone "what?" I informed him that it's my room, my phone and I wasn't expecting calls so late at night. He hung up on me again. After dealing with Marriott Customer Care, twice that night and again the next day, that's another terrible story, I thought I had things worked out. If this location wasn't able to help with recovery, then I'd relocate and give someone else my money. I ended up speaking to Mary Ann Michael, their GM, after breakfast. She said she was aware of the situation but my recollection of events differed from my employee, SHOCKER. She said she'd make it up. She offered a discount and points to my account. I saw the discount applied to my folio and was appreciative. Here I am weeks later and my points aren't there. I've emailed and called and have received zero response.
