"Context - family from the UK who have travelled extensively around Greece in small, boutique hotels. Hotel - set in the most beautiful location with amazing views over the bay. The view from the breakfast room is breath-taking. It is however on a very steep hill and not suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The walk to breakfast each morning certainly burnt a few calories! Pool - the view from the pool is amazing, however during the peak season, probably too small for the size of the hotel. On a couple of days we couldn't get sunbeds in the afternoon when returning to the hotel. There is also a somewhat militant pool lady who will remove your towel and belongings if you dare leave your bed for more than 15/20 mins. One day, we decided to spend the whole day by the pool. After being there since 10am, at 1.30pm we went to get lunch. As we were coming back, we left our towels on two beds, the beach bag and other personal items. To our dismay, when returning an hour and half later, everything had been removed and someone else was sat there! I'm all for monitoring the reserving of sunbeds, but this was extreme and seemed a bit heavy handed. As she doesn't get to the pool until midday, she clearly hadn't appreciated we had been sat there since 10am, unlike some others who we noticed placed towels down at 9am and did not appear at the pool until midday. This however went unnoticed due to her working hours. Another issue we had is getting clean towels. As the pool didn't officially open until midday, clean towels were only available after this time. We have young children and are usually by the pool at 10am. Therefore instead of getting clean towels at midday, we requested clean ones at the end of the day around 6pm in readiness for the next day. Well the pool lady did not like this. On two occasions, she refused to provide these, despite only 10 minutes earlier happily handing them out to others. It was only due to my insistence that she handed them over with a rude huff. In all hotels we have previously stayed at, towels are simply in a trolley or box near the pool and you help yourself when you arrive at the pool and hand in at the end of the day. The rather strict towel policy was somewhat frustrating. Food - the breakfast is very nice and varied with lots of fresh, homemade food on offer. An alternative breakfast juice would be a bonus as if you don't like orange juice, there was nothing else on offer. More fresh fruit would also be beneficial. We did not eat at night, but the restaurant has the most spectacular sunset view and appeared busy later on (after 8.30). Room - we had a ground floor family suite. The room was well set up with effectively 2 bedrooms, one for the kids and one for us. A huge balcony with an amazing view. The room was very dark however, especially in the morning and especially in the bathroom with not much natural light. Also a lack of a full length mirror. A big issue was the lack of storage space. "We have stayed here each year for 11 years and love it. It is different and quirky with a mix of ancient and new renovated to create a comfortable impression of the old tower dwellings of the area, with modern additions of aircon, USB charge points and TVs and fridges. The owners are rightly proud of their hotel which was a family endeavour. Breakfast is a feast, adapted to your dietary needs, with a huge collection of teas from around the caves. Dinner is a treat sitting on the terrace as the sun sets. The owners offer information abouts walks, beaches and villages to visit to get the best from this unique area. The owners are well travelled and having experienced many cultures, share their experiences within the service they offer and stories they share. Many clients return again and again,like us, I need not say anything more!"

"Normalerweise schreibe ich keine Hotelbewertungen, da ich glaube, dass Ästhetik und persönliche Vorlieben immer subjektiv sind. Was das „Tainaron Blue“ betrifft, empfinde ich es jedoch fast als Pflicht, über diesen außergewöhnlichen Ort zu sprechen. Es handelt sich nicht um ein gewöhnliches Hotel, sondern um einen authentischen maniotischen Turm, der mit großem Respekt vor seiner ursprünglichen Architektur restauriert wurde. Er liegt mitten im Nirgendwo in der lakonischen Mani, dort, wo man nicht mehr weiß, wo der Traum endet und die Wirklichkeit beginnt. Der gastfreundliche Eigentümer Kostas hat etwas Erstaunliches geschaffen. Mit Leidenschaft und Hingabe hat er diesen traditionellen Turm restauriert und in ein wunderschönes Gästehaus mit nur vier Zimmern verwandelt. Von dort genießt man einen fantastischen Blick auf das Meer. Der herrliche Außenbereich mit seinen Olivenbäumen lädt dazu ein, ein ausgezeichnetes griechisches Frühstück zu genießen, am Nachmittag einen Aperitif neben dem kleinen, reizvollen Pool zu trinken, an dem Schwalben zwitschernd Wasser trinken, und am Abend ein hervorragendes Abendessen zu erleben. Die Speisen werden von einem renommierten griechischen Küchenchef kreiert und vom freundlichen Personal tadellos serviert. All dies wäre jedoch nur die Hälfte wert ohne die Präsenz des Gastgebers Kostas. Mit seiner Herzlichkeit, seiner Güte und seinem stets freundlichen Lächeln sorgt er dafür, dass man sich vom ersten Moment an wie zu Hause fühlt. Ich komme seit vielen aufeinanderfolgenden Sommern hierher und werde weiterhin zurückkehren, solange ich kann. Es ist ein einzigartiger Ort, an dem man den Alltag vollkommen vergisst. Vielen Dank, Kostas, für diese besondere Oase der Gastfreundschaft."
