The Gatehouse B&B

Gatehouse was excellent . Everything from the hosts ,rooms, location and the scrumptious breakfast. The We could not fault it in anyway at all. The property is approximately 15 min. walk to the centre of Inverness. We will definitely be back to stay

We really enjoyed this B&B. Initially were concerned about the location (no car!) as it seemed far from the town (and we are not avid walkers) but once we figured it out either by gauging the length of walk or buses (super easy) or cabs (so prompt!), it was fine. The Gatehouse itself is absolutely charming. Well appointed, delicious home-cooked breakfasts and the hosts are just lovely.

We stayed on the weekend of the Loch Ness Marathon and would absolutely recommend the Gatehouse. The hosts Ranald & Caroline made us very welcome and are so pleasant. We were leaving at 6:15am to get to the marathon so they got us porridge pots and bananas to have before we left and get some much needed calories. They were also waiting on the doorstep for us to return and to see if we needed anything. The rooms were really comfortable, the bed was fantastic to rest our weary bodies. The place was immaculately clean. Breakfast was beautifully cooked. Approximately a mile from the city which meant the area was quiet and a pleasant walk into town. Would absolutely recommend the Gatehouse.

Such a disappointment not what we had in our specific guide when advising Byways of our requirements. Our specifics listed 4 star close to rail station / city, no bnb’s rooms must have en-suite. On arrival we were not greeted in a unfriendly manner … it was more like “what do you want” by the man of the house. He showed us our room, it just fitted a queen bed small dresser and one chair. The bathroom was at the end of the main passage way. We were booked for 3 nights. No where to sit comfortably. We called for a taxi as we were 20minutes out of Inverness with few eating/ restaurants opportunities. We found a hotel in town booked it went back to The Gatehouse and spoke to the lady of the house. We apologized and said it was not what we wanted. She said she would have to charge us for the first night. We said okay we will get onto our booking agent for them to organize a refund for the other two night through you. They are now saying they can not refund as we did not cancel. I ask what more can we do other than tell the owner of the property face to face it’s not what we ordered, we rang for a taxi and took our luggage? Other than a small bedroom there was nowhere to sit and relax, they had a dining room for breakfast that was stark with just a table and chairs. One thing I will admit the place was clean but not suitable for a stay in Inverness for 3 days. Liz Y

Excellent accommodation and scrupulously clean . A beautiful house and location for city centre. Hosts extremely welcoming and helpful. Wonderful breakfast beautifully served. Thank you for a fabulous stay !

This Bed and Breakfast is GREAT! The owners are very friendly, helpful and give great advice on what to see and do in and around Inverness. The breakfast is delicious and you do not go away hungry. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms are very tastefully decorated and very clean. It is only a 15-20 minute walk from the train station and only about a 15-20 walk to the city center. If you are heading to Scotland, you would be wise to consider this B&B.
