Was in touch with Judi and Chloe at Arctic Chalet for about a year planning a stay in June/July 2024. Received a confirmation of room being booked by travel agent from Uniglobe on 1/12/2024. Received a message from Chloe on 4/15/2024 stating shuttles from the airport were available. Received a message from Uniglobe on 6/28/2024 (while on my way to Inuvik) that a shuttle was no longer available and that Judi would soon call me. Judi never called so I took a cab from the airport ($45) and when arriving at the Arctic Chalet a young girl from Germany tried to check me in but couldn’t find my reservation anywhere. How could I not have a reservation when Judi herself called Uniglobe (travel agent) to let them know I wouldn’t be getting a shuttle as promised. She then asked me why I didn’t call for a shuttle? What!!!! After a long time, I got the Northwoods Cabin. The cabin had the door wide open while it was being cleaned, explaining the large number of mosquitoes in the room when I finally was allowed to go in about 45 minutes later. There is only one screened window so there is no air circulation and it gets really stuffy in there. I was bombarded with mosquitoes all night long making for little sleep. The toilet is tilted/leaning and quivers when you sit on it. The flooring in the bathroom is stapled down linoleum, barely holding. The whole shower/toilet area is built very crudely. I did have the luck of two beds and two sinks though (unlike many other reviews I read here). A single bed and a double bed, a sink in the bathroom and one in the mini-kitchen. The handrail going up the stairs is missing, rotted away it seems. The fire alarm disconnected, the room reeked of cigarettes, the foundations were twisting and crumbling. Curtains are really light – would help to have dark ones in the summer when it’s always light. The curtain rod kept falling when opening/closing curtains. Many reviews complain about the breakfast food. On the main road to Inuvik, the sign says Arctic Chalet Bed and Breakfast Inn (so you still assume breakfast is available). On the road by the entrance to the Arctic Chalet, the sign says Arctic Chalet Country Guest House and Cabins (no longer B&B). Don’t expect any food unless previous guests left some behind. The view from the room is of dead vehicles and equipment, ripped tarps, old sheds, and other trash. I was told the password would be written on a sheet of paper explaining the do's and don'ts of the place but it was nowhere to be found. I tracked the girl who checked me in and she finally supplied the sheet with all the information, stealing it out of another cabin. When I asked her about the price of the shuttle, she told me it was $35 so that my extra $10 taxi was not a big deal. The information sheet stated that their shuttle is $25, not $35. Other guests got picked up by the shuttle that day. When I pointed that out to her, she just shrugged me off. Certainly looks like there

We enjoyed a visit to Arctic Chalet, a tour of the kennels and informative talk about the husky breeding programme. The guide was very knowledgeable and answered our questions in a confident manner. We were allowed into the kennels and be up close to the huskies. An invitation was extended to go exercise the dogs, however as this involved sitting on a 4x4 and going over rough ground, I declined the offer on account of medical insurance conditions!! I think Arctic Chalet would be a fun place to stay for the more active person.

Six buddies stayed for 2 nights in Mid August. We had the family cabin and the room above the main house. Accommodations were clean and comfortable. We made use of the bbq and the kitchen was equipped to handle our needs.

We took the 5 day tour from Dawson to the Arctic Ocean through the Arctic Chalet tours in Inuvik. We spent one night in Eagle Plains and three nights in a log chalet at the Arctic Chalet resort in Inuvik. The proprietor Olav was our fabulous driver and guide. His wife Judi was the behind the scenes organizer. Olav was so knowledgeable, insightful and had so much first hand experience to share. There were 9 of us on the tour and we all learned so much and developed a real appreciation for what it takes to live so far north. Our tour took us up the Dempster Highway through spectacular scenery all the way to Tuktoyaktuk and the Arctic Ocean. Many great photo ops along the way. Our tour had many facets including a flight over the MacKenzie Delta and a cultural lunch and chat in a local’s home in Tuktoyuktuk.

Arctic Chalet has a beautiful setting on a lake with charming log cabins scattered among the trees. Judi & Olav are incredible hosts. They offer such a variety of interesting experiences - sled dog outings, tours of the Dempster Highway south and to Tuktoyaktuk to the North. They have wilderness cabins as well. The Arctic Chalet cabins have in-floor heating, so are always toasty warm on your feet. Each unit has a small (or complete) kitchen, roomy washroom, beds, table & chairs, a comfortable chair and a lovely porch. Trails leave from your doorstep. A short walk will take you to a beautiful wilderness lake. We've spotted moose tracks along the trail (which has a walk bridge crossing a small stream). A canoe is available in summer. Long hikes, skis or other outings can be planned to span hours without seeing another person or building. It's a short walk into town (there is a trail; in winter, the ice road makes a scenic walk). Judi & Olav offer free use of a car as well for quick errands. The whole atmosphere is serene, quiet and peaceful. The perfect place to stay!
