The home includes an outdoor living space with hot tub, firepit, six chairs, and a propane/charcoal grill. The home is positioned on a large cliff providing a beautiful view of Palmers Cove on Nomini Creek. There is a dock that is accessible by steps on the adjoining property. Please note: There are approximately 50 steps down to the pier. The dock has a boathouse where you are welcome to store your boat during your stay. The local boat ramp is less than a mile away. Palmers Cove Retreat is perfect for fishing and kayaking. Three kayaks are available for use during your stay. Lifejackets must be worn while using Kayaks. Several sizes are provided. A swim ladder is provided to climb back on the dock if you choose to swim. There are several local winery's and restaurants to choose from during your stay. Since General's Ridge is owned by a Marine, Jose always ensures he sounds off with a loud OORAH! The grounds are lush and boast historic housing on the property. If you like darts, we always enjoy a little competition with the kids while sipping on our favorite wine, Semper Fi. We then make our way down to Hague Winery. The simple grounds with the cozy barn are always welcoming. On a hot or rainy day, we love sitting outside under the barn canopy. On those hot summer days, we always look forward to a little Rosé. If Lala’s Kitchen on Wheels makes an appearance, we never miss a trip to Hague Winery!EXPANDING YOUR MIND KIND-OF-WEEKEND:Westmoreland County and the surrounding areas are rich in history. The birthplace of George Washington and James Monroe can be found in Colonial Beach. We really love visiting the grounds of George Washington’s birthplace and then make our way over to the picnic area and launch the kayaks off the dock of the Monroe family farm. After picnicking we head back towards the house, but not before we make a stop at Strafford Hall, the home of the Lee family (you could spend the whole day here). The grounds are spectacular and we can lay on the rolling hills behind the main house for hours! Stafford Hall hosts events throughout the year but our favorite is the Oyster and Wine Festival! During that event we don’t really retain much history, but always leave full and happy. Another fun historical stop is the Westmoreland County Museum and Library. Permanent exhibits include portraits of Westmoreland County’s historical figures, fossils, and Native American artifacts.TREASURE HUNTING:This is Brooke’s favorite weekend adventure and the one she is most excited to share! Just down the beautiful canopy road of Erica Drive, make your way to Murphy’s Hardware and Garden. The owner Rebecca knows everything, and if you need some plants, tools, paint, or seeds she will gladly help you out. Flanking the main barn is where the treasures can be found, two large buildings full of antiques await you. Also, within the main barn there are local made artistry items that you can’t pass up. Done treasure hunting, then hit the road towards Warsaw. Side note, on the way to Warsaw, we can never pass by Garners Farmer Market without stopping in for local produce and meat, but especially for the ice cream sandwiches and bacon, it’s a MUST stop. Those sandwiches will leave you with cravings for days to come!Downtown Warsaw has some cute shops but our favorite for new treasures is Colonial Collectibles. The oyster painting within our home came from this store.Keep on trucking to Tappanhannock until you reach Acme Antiques, can’t miss it! You can be in this three-level store for hours, whether your finding treasures or simply laughing at what they have inside, you will definitely take a bunch of photos to send home! If you didn’t indulge in the ice cream sandwich at Garners, stop by Acme’s ice cream shop next store. Even if you don’t want ice cream its super cute inside.After a day of treasure hunting, we always stop by Northern Neck Burgers on our way home. Not only are the burgers amazing but the lobster roll is even more delicious. The milk shakes are always a hit for both the young and old! Be sure to wash your hands in the restroom.Nature and exercise:We often utilize our kayaks to cruise around outback. We typically head over to the nature preserve, directly across the water from our place, and look for fossils. If you are biker, our neighborhood has plenty of beautiful farm and country roads to enjoy. We always take a run or walk with our pup, Lincoln, around the bend towards the Potomac River (when you leave Chatham Village-our neighborhood just stay right).Another adventure is hiking around Westmoreland State Park. The cliffs overlooking the Potomac are impressive. On certain Saturdays throughout the summer, the park features live music on the cliffs; that’s always a special treat. Westmoreland State Park has a tone of activities you can enjoy like shark tooth necklace crafts, birdhouse painting, turtle feeding, and fossil hiking.In the opposite direction, Rappahannock River Valley National Wildlife Refuge Hutchinson Unit in Tappahannock offers 2-miles of trails through meadows, forests along with a platform overlooking the grasslands.Rappahannock River Valley National Wildlife Refuge, 20,000 acres of wetlands with 4 federally-listed threatened or endangered species may be found.Wilna Unit is 976-acres, that feature 5 different hiking trai

The large covered porch deck is where you can sit at one of the two outdoor tables with a cuppa Joe and your phone, catching up on social media or just reading a book in the gentle warmth of the morning sunshine. Remember to wave to the golf cars as they pass; Colonial Beach is a golf-cart friendly community. Each morning when you awaken, you'll love going to the front porch, closing your eyes and soaking in the morning sun. During the school year, you can watch the elementary school kids during recess. There is a large unfenced backyard if you are bringing outdoor games. Neither the porch nor deck is gated. We stock the kitchen with quality colorful barware, utensils, and cookware, but you're just a short ride from Colonial Beach's cute local restaurants, bars, and breweries. Walk or golf-cart a couple blocks to the beach or cute shops if you wish, or take a quick bike ride over to the public beach if you prefer that vibe. We even have a water view sort-of: from the cross road at the home's driveway you can see the Potomac River shimmering just a short bit away. Walk toward the water and veer right to find the public beach just a short way away. Ride a bike or rent a golf cart for the best and easiest way to get to the public beach each day. This is our home away from home and we treat it as such. You'll find it well-cared-for with quirky art, fine furnishings, and upscale bedding. We love fun barware and distinctive décor; nothing old or outmoded here, though we do have some cool vintage items in the house. Fun, contemporary, upscale vintage, and easy-peasy! The house is NOT child-proofed in any way. Dogs are allowed if they do not get on furniture or bedding and if we are given info on them ahead of time. Check-in and check-out times are based on cleaning protocols and are difficult to move. If you need an earlier check in time, let us know and we will do our best, but make no promises. No partying please. No loud music and no outdoor guests after 10 pm. Outdoor bugs are possible anywhere so bring your spray. We keep ant spray inside and wasp/bee spray on the deck to help out if you find a stray bug, though we have a monthly pest control contract. Keep the doors shut to keep the flies out. Clean as you go, please. But, it's your vacation, do when it is time to go, just put your dishes in the dishwasher and start it before you leave. You do not need to do the laundry. You do not have to strip the bed and can just put dirty towels and washcloths in a pile in the bath tub/shower or laundry room. Please note there are a few items marked "Not For Guests" or "Do Not Touch" in the home and we'd appreciate you letting those alone during the course of your stay. Please wipe down your spills to help keep pests away and use a trash bag in the bins (extras are left for you). A vacuum cleaner and broom is available for the guests to use if needed. No iron or ironing board at the house. Basic utensils and dishes for serving-eating-cooking are available, but if you need something specific please bring it. We have some cleaning supplies, napkins, toilet paper, and paper towels available for you, but you may need more if you have a longer stay planned or run out. We have free WIFI for you, but a large # of people using a lot of apps and platforms may slow the speed a bit. We have one 32" Roku television with no cable or air tv service, but WIFI is available in every room. Bring your Amazon, Netflix, etc. passwords. Roku TV and HBO Max is available free of charge. We have exterior cameras that automatically record video and audio. It records outdoor activity automatically for safety and security and sends the info to the cloud. We have our email and cell # all over the house in spots so you can call or text in an emergency. Call or text if you arrive and have not received the door code.Pets: 2 dogs allowed; only non-aggressive and non-territorial dogs with no history of biting. Dogs may not get on furniture or beds. Please plan to clean up after your pet outside. Pet deposit is $125 per pet. Quiet hours are 10 pm to 8 am. No grills, candles, or open fires are allowed. Do not park in front of neighbor homes. We have automatic outdoor lighting.
