This three bedroom, two bath home sleeps eight people and features all the amenities including high-speed wifi and a custom-built back deck for you and your family to relax and enjoy. Laundry is on site and we covered the basics including a full set of pots and pans, cooking utensils, a coffee maker, a toaster, and a blender in the kitchen. We also include shampoo, conditioner and body wash, towels, and a hair dryer in each bathroom. Anything else you might need can be found 1 mile down the road at the local grocery store.We are within 1.5 miles of the beautiful little town of Alden, Michigan. View all Torch Lake has to offer at many of the local shops and restaurants, or hit the water from the easily accessed public boat launch. We do have parking for two vehicles plus a boat trailer at the rental, so bring your own boat or rent one from any of the local rental services. Alden boasts some of the finest small-town vibes in Michigan and its entirely family friendly with two different ice cream shops and a children’s park within walking distance of downtown. All the family fun in one cozy destination.If you’re more of an adventurist, there is also a kayak and SUP rental company in downtown Alden or you can bring your own and launch right across the street. We also have a few nice rivers in the area to really immerse yourself in nature. If two wheels are your thing, Glacial Hills has a nice set of flow mountain bike trails that can be ridden or hiked. If you prefer hiking there are several beautiful nature areas to explore including Coy Mountain, Glacial Hills and Grass River Natural Area.Looking for a more leisurely activity? Welcome to my Grandfather's Cottage on Torch Lake, one of the very few cottages with a beautiful sandy beach and within walking distance to Downtown Alden. First off to address some of the reviews for last year. Full disclosure, I fell short on some of the minor maintenance that needed to happen while guests where staying with me. This past fall I spent and extensive about of time fixing everything that needed to be taken care of and will be spending this spring making additional improvements. For this coming summer we also are bringing on a new cleaning crew as the ones we had last year fell well short of expectations.In regards to the review claiming Bed Bugs and Child Safety issues, Both of these are flat out incorrect. Swimming in Torch lake there is the possibility of getting swimmers ich, like most any inland lake, which can lead to minor irritation. Which is why it was only her grandkids that and any issues since they were the only one swimming.I have welcomed people into my Grandfather’s Cottage coming to visit Up North for many years and I love being able to share this amazing and special place I hope that you will come stay with me and enjoy the place like so many people in the past. The sandy beach slopes into the clear water gently, making this a great walk-in swim site for all ages. There is also a permanent anchor off the end of the dock for those who bring there boat. We also offer a few different options in boat rentals if you are interested in that as well. This single story cottage has a fully fenced back yard making it perfect for dogs or small kids. It comes with a fully equipped kitchen with a small island and an attached breakfast area as you walk in from the street. Through the kitchen opens in to a spacious living room with large picture windows facing the lake. With a TV and fireplace on one end of the room and a dining area on the other. The living room opens out through French doors onto the screened in porch which provides an exceptional sunset view. There are two bedrooms one with a queen size bed and the other with two twin beds located on one side of the house sharing a full bath. The third bedroom is on the opposite side with a set of bunk beds and a full bath attached to it. My grandmother's brother built this cottage in 1910 - and he got a prime lakefront location. Now with updated bathrooms and refinished wood floors the interior provides up-north cottage charm alongside all the modern amenities.Everyone's favorite place to spend time indoors seems to be the screened-in porch which opens to the lake and shoreline on 3 sides. Here you can settle down in a comfy chair to enjoy Torch’s famous “Caribbean blue” stripes chase across the lake, or sip an evening glass of wine and watch the sunset pour molten light into the water.The large living room with its central stone hearth is a great spot to gather around a fire on a cooler evening or around the TV on a rainy day. The property features a dock, a firepit by the lake, a lakeside patio with chairs and an umbrella table, and another patio with a grill off the kitchen.This is not a party spot, but it would be great for families or groups of adults seeking a relaxing getaway. Nestled in among majestic trees and private cottages, the location offers privacy and quiet. Sandy shallows extend for dozens of yards off the rocky shoreline; we also have a dock a mooring buoy for your motorboat or pontoon boat. (Jet-skis are not allowed.) The charming town of Alden, with boutiques, dining, and public tennis courts and playground, is a 1/2-mile walk away. Located on breathtakingly beautiful Torch Lake, this non-smoking property has been owned by the same family since the late 1800's. The cottage features natural wood interiors, two wood burning fireplaces, shelves of books, gorgeous views of the lake, coziness, and simplicity. Equally suitable for families with young children or older couples, it comfortably sleeps six people in the cottage plus four more in the Guest House.We have 150 feet of lakefront, including a sandy beach, a private dock, boat hoist, and mooring buoy. The lake's sandy bottom is shallow for a fair distance, making it ideal for children and adults. The cottage sits at the end of a private road in a secluded setting thick with mature trees. Its location on the east side of the lake affords spectacular views of the setting sun, especially from the large open air deck which overlooks the lake, and the near-constant lull of water lapping at the shore. There is also a smaller private deck, complete with a hammock swing (one of several on the property), off the master suite.Note: all three bathrooms were completely renovated in 2021!TORCH LAKE was named the third most beautiful lake in the world by National Geographic Magazine. The water is so clear you can see the sandy bottom all the way out to the 'drop-off.' On sunny days, the lake has ribbons of turquoise color that are reminiscent of the Caribbean. Torch is the largest lake in Michigan (19 miles long and about two miles wide) and is part of a chain of lakes which allows boating from Elk Rapids to Bellaire. For a good overview and some great pictures, you can look up the article "Torch Lake is Michigan's own slice of the Caribbean." A 15-minute stroll takes you to the small and charming village of ALDEN. It has one of Torch Lake's four public boat ramps, a number of restaurants (both casual and fine cuisine), art galleries, a variety of shops, a playground, a public tennis court, and a library. Green woods and broad fields extend out from the town, offering great cycling and walking.Popular tourist destinations such as Traverse City, Charlevoix, the Leelanau Peninsula, and Petoskey are all within an hour's drive. Should you choose to venture further afield, Interlochen National Music Camp (offering excellent concerts), Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, Mackinac Island, or Hartwick Pines are well worth visiting. Because the cottage is a family heirloom, we request great care and consideration from our renters. This beautiful cottage is situated on an expansive private lot with sandy beach on the south side of Torch Lake. The unobstructed view from the house and deck look north across the crystal clear waters of the lake - ideal for viewing both the sunrise and sunset. The south side of the lake is shallow and has a beautiful sandy bottom, perfect for swimming and playing any time of the day or night. A gorgeous new dock includes a large platform for six to comfortably hang out or sunbathe. There's a hoist for a motor boat and a mooring anchor for other watercraft. You are a boat ride away from the Dockside restaurant at Clam River, where you can sit outside, watch the boats go by, and enjoy lunch or dinner. You are a short 20 minute drive from Traverse City, and 90 minutes from Sleeping Bear Dunes. Beautiful House: The cottage is lovely and airy and boasts all of the comforts and convenience of home, including a fully stocked kitchen and a washer and dryer. A large deck is great for outdoor dining. A boat hoist is available for speed boats plus there is a heavy duty mooring anchor 100 feet from shore for a second watercraft.
