We are only 12 miles from Ithaca, 10 miles from Watkins Glen and 8 miles from Trumansburg!The space:Vintage decor and hand-plastered walls combine with brand-new furnishings and an open floor plan to provide a uniquely relaxing atmosphere. (The cottage was built in 2022. Please note, that the final exterior layer of plaster on the outside of the cottage is being completed this summer. This will not impact your stay whatsoever). Walk to the cottage from the private driveway along a short 100' path. We provide a cart to make it easier for you to carry your luggage. There are two wide steps to climb which bring you to the large covered porch.Outside, enjoy the porch with chairs, table, a double and a single hammock, new (in 2024) propane grill and fire pit with Adirondack chairs (wood is provided).Upon entering the cottage, a small nook framed in repurposed local barn wood provides a bench and hooks to hang your coat and leave your shoes. To your left are stairs to the LOFT, complete with an all-natural mattress, bamboo pillows and cotton sheets. Two windows, an open-style railing, a view of the living room and high ceilings in the middle of the loft ensure a spacious and cozy feel. **Please note, the stairs to the loft are steeper than normal steps. We suggest using the railing.Windows surround the LIVING ROOM, a couch and chaise lounge, invite you to relax. The wood stove provides a cozy atmosphere and plenty of warmth for winter renters. Meet the sheep, see the mushrooms, taste the sap (depending on the season.)Other things to note:About straw bale construction: Straw bale buildings are earth-friendly and provide excellent insulation and the ability to moderate temperature, staying cooler in summer and toasty warm in winter. As in this cottage, straw bales are usually covered in multiple layers of earthen clay plaster, with each layer (from the inside out) getting smoother and more refined. Almost all the construction materials (straw, clay, sand, wood) in this cottage have been sourced locally, from within 80 miles. No plywood or pressure-treated wood was used in the construction. Strawbale buildings are known to create a very healthy environment because the clay literally purifies the ambient indoor air and humidity. The deck is accessed by climbing 3 stairs.Inside, there is a very comfortable, all-natural QUEEN BED mattress in the loft with a window to the sky. As pictured, the loft is accessed by climbing a ladder. The loft is not suitable for children - there is no railing. On the main floor, there is a convertible QUEEN FUTON. We are happy to make this bed for guests who prefer not to climb the ladder; however, please consider if this is the best rental for you if that's the case.There's a large FULL BATHROOM, a SMALL KITCHEN and a WALK-IN CLOSET. Organic LINENS, one set of TOWELS and PILLOWS ARE PROVIDED for all guests.The KITCHEN has a small oven, stove, mini-fridge with a small freezer, toaster oven, pots, pans, dishes, cups, oil, vinegar, basic spices, a French press (with instructions), and organic coffee and sugar ready for your use. This lake home sits on the eastern shores of Seneca lake. There is a boat house on the beach that holds fun water toys including 2 paddle boards, 3 kayaks, a paddle boat and many different floats. There are 6 life jackets. The dock area has plenty of seating. For someone wanting to dock their motor boat we have two boat lifts and mooring whips that can hold a boat temporarily for a visitor. On the beach we have a fire ring for our guests and cut fire wood is on the property. There is a separate bedroom which feels like a little apartment with a king sized bed, 1/2 bath, TV and coffee nook. This is accessed by going outside under one of the porches to the lower level. There are many different seating areas with tables on each level. The lower level porch also has a hot tub, hammock, porch swing and has its own beverage refrigerator. Enjoy the hot tub which feels wonderful anytime of the day. There is a washer /dryer in the full bathroom, on the main level of the house with laundry soap and drier sheets provided. Wash clothes, hand and bath towels provided. Hot tub/ beach towels also provided. There is an outdoor grill and a full kitchen with utensils, pots and pans, oil, vinegar, seasonings, coffee (ground and Keurig), teas, sugar, non-dairy creamers and condiments. Aside from the full refrigerator/freezer in the kitchen there is also a separate beverage refrigerator. Upgraded radiant heat flooring is available in the living room and bedroom facing the lake, on the main level. AC units are in windows of all bedrooms, in warmer months. High speed internet and 3 Smart televisions are provided. There is a large screen TV in the living room that has Netflix, Pandora and Prime. There is a new couch which has three electric recliners, USB ports and seats 6. Upon request a high chair and pack-n-play are available. The water is drinkable from any sink due to a UV light/ filtration system. The neighbors are wonderful if ever needed but not intrusive.
