An adequate stay, though regrettably, the entire spa area was closed. We were informed of this in advance, but no discount was offered, which was disappointing given that it was a major selling point. We stayed in Room 2 with a sea view – I’m sure it would be pleasant during summer months. However, we couldn’t open the curtains while getting ready due to the room’s proximity to reception, with people constantly walking past and peering in. I’d avoid these rooms in future. The bathroom was very cold. As these are add-on rooms, they haven’t been properly insulated. Again, this is only an issue in winter; I’m sure they’re fine in summer. We wanted to dine at the 3-rosette restaurant, but like most facilities, it was unexpectedly closed. Instead, we ate in the family restaurant. Service was half an hour behind schedule, but staff were courteous and provided complimentary drinks without prompting. However, a bottle of wine we expressed interest in (and asked to chill) appeared on our bill despite not ordering it. Luckily, my wife noticed – I usually don’t – or we’d have been £44 out of pocket. Charging for chilling a bottle rather than upon ordering seems utterly bizarre. If you set up a tab, check your bill thoroughly. I might have considered returning post-refurbishment, as there were positives. However, certain aspects left a bitter taste and fell short of expectations for a resort of this calibre.
