Château de Noirieux

We had a delightful stay. We are sorry it could not have been longer. Lovely buildings and grounds. The bedroom was comfortable and spacious (though the staircase would not suit someone with poor mobility), with a very nice outlook. The lounge areas were very pleasant, as was the pool though the shower room there was not very private (no frosted glass facing the pool). Our dinner was excellent, as was the service. At breakfast, it would have been helpful if the options had been explained to us, as after we had finished we saw someone with a fried egg; we were not made aware that we could have ordered something hot. And the cold meats and cheese should be covered as there were flies on them.

Stunning Chateau beautifully presented. Quiet picturesque spot. Easy parking. Excellent food in the restaurant with various menus. Lovely helpful staff. Heated pool & hot tub. Fabulous overnight stay. Will definitely book again. We loved it!

Beautiful chateaux in a gorgeous setting in the Loire Valley! Gourmet restaurant where we had a delicious meal. The staff were very attentive and welcoming. We traveled with our 5 month old and they were very accommodating. Would highly recommend

Though we had booked a table for 3 far a couple of weeks before, when arriving we were invited to seat at the end of a very large banquet table at far form the other tables. As we declined to be punished, we explained that we would prefer to be seated a table next to the window looking to the garden. Obviously the Maitre D did not appreciated our behaviour and let us know that should we have a preference for a specific table, we had tto specify upon our reservation. How can you when you are not familiar with the configuration of the dining room? How expect to be seated at a corner of a banquet table at the far end of the whole restaurant? The Maître D kept lecturing us for a while trying to make his point. i had to put an end to his inappropriate patronising tone and attitude. The food was quite delicate but with ridiculous portions as never seen. The desserts would have been acceptable for a regular conventional restaurant, as served on a buffet comparable to those for breakfast where you had to queue for a portion of brioche and some cheese cake and such. We could not say it was bad or untasty but unfortunately not up to the standard of a Michelin stared restaurant. The only professional on the crew was the sommelier who provided us with great advice. Feedback for Château de Noirieux We rarely find ourselves submitting such critical feedback, but we hope this is seen constructively. After exceptional experiences at other Relais & Châteaux properties in Saint-Émilion and Honfleur, we were astonished by the stark difference in quality at Château de Noirieux, which fell far short of the high standards we expected from this prestigious brand. Positives: • The room itself shows evidence of recent investment, which highlights the hotel’s potential to offer a refined guest experience. • The restaurant team was exceptional, bringing a level of professionalism that stood out amid an otherwise disappointing stay. Areas for Improvement: • Reception & Arrival: From the outset, we found basic customer service lacking. Upon arrival, the receptionist seemed hesitant to help with luggage, preferring to stay behind the desk. This was a disappointing first impression, and simple, guest-focused gestures would make a substantial difference. • In-room Requests: When we requested an iron and ironing board, we had to follow up three times. On the third request, the receptionist suggested we check the room ourselves and, if it was still missing, return to reception so she could “ask again.” After multiple requests, a proactive response would have been appropriate; she could have accompanied us to ensure the matter was resolved. Unfortunately, this hesitation to assist directly was a pattern we noticed across other interactions at the front desk. • Luggage Handling: We found ourselves managing our own luggage during check-out, as no one was available to assist. This hands-off approach may work at more modest establishments, but at this price level and with no additional staff present, we would expect a more attentive front desk team. • Room Cleanliness & Maintenance: Although the room had been recently refurbished, it showed signs of neglect. There were noticeable stains on the carpet, and the bathroom window held multiple dead insects, with cobwebs behind the toilet. These details undermine the overall presentation and fall short of Relais & Châteaux’s usual attention to detail. • WiFi Access: Perhaps the most surprising and frustrating aspect of our stay was the complete lack of WiFi in the room, despite this being confirmed in two separate booking emails. Upon discovering the issue, we approached the front desk to inquire, only to be met with laughter and the suggestion that “of course, WiFi doesn’t work in the room – the walls are too thick.” This response was dismissive and entirely unacceptable, especially at a hotel of this calibre. Rather than offering a solution or even an apology, they suggested we go outside to the courtyard if we wanted a connection. This attitude was reflective of a general lack of accountability, as though the issue was to be expected and no effort was made to improve it with something as basic as a signal extender or a router. Extremely poor kitchen, breakfast was a disaster. Firstly an egg's Benedict was deconstructed to a single poached egg with a slice of toast, clearly not an eggs Benedict. Apart from the slow invisible service the real disaster was the ham and cheese omelette, the cheese that was used was a slice of orange Kraft American cheese that's usually found on a burger. What chef in France would consider that acceptable?
