Holly Tree Guest House

Good location just out of the main centre but nice and close to it, no parking but a few car parks nearby, we paid £8 for 24 hours at Greyfriars just 200 yds from hotel, I understand there is a cheaper alternative, the owners will give you the details, but we wanted somewhere near and were happy to pay for that. Anyway to the hotel self check in, simple convenient, room basic but very clean, well stocked tea coffee milks etc. There was a microwave in our room but not used, nice bathroom, bed was comfy, robe space, tv . Reasonably quiet, had window open as was warm but still slept well. Breakfast was very good, really tasty, people serving it so polite and friendly. Summing up a lovely stay and would very much recommend.

Although this is a basic guest house without ensuite, it was as advertised. First, a thanks to the staff who cooked a fantastic breakfast + a vegan option for my better half. The guest house was spotless. It was, as advertised, a very short walk to the cathedral. Although you can't park at the guest house there's plenty of cheap options nearby.

I was visiting the small but attractive City of Hereford again in connection with the XVIIth Beer, Cider and Perry Festival and wanted somewhere to stay for four nights which was clean, cheap and close to the Rowing Club's headquarters where the event was taking place. In these three respects the Holly Tree Guest House did not disappoint. It's situated on Barton Road, a ten minute walk from Hereford Cathedral and the city centre, close to the main road and bridge over the River Wye. I stayed in Room 4 which was up a steep flight of steps from the front door. The room, which faced onto the busy Barton Road was small but had plenty of wardrobes and chests-of-drawers for storing clothes, a washbasin with liquid soap, plus a kettle and mug and the usual consumables required to make tea or coffee. There was also an iron and ironing board plus extra blankets if required, but no chair or desk at which to work on a laptop computer. The fast, free Entanet wi-fi met my expectations with download and upload speeds of 12.2 and 7.6 Mbps respectively, plus a latency of 26ms. The room was well-endowed with 240 Volt, 3-Pin power sockets and, in spite of its proximity to a busy road, very quiet, so I had no problems sleeping at night in my comfortable single bed. Contact with the Guest House owners and/or staff was minimal, being confined to breakfast, as you let yourself into the premises with a key obtained from a safe by the front door, and fill out a laminated plastic card with each day's meal requirements plus the time at which you wish to eat.. Breakfast consisted of a full English fry-up plus a choice of apple or orange juice, tea or coffee and white or brown toast. I had to specially request a bowl of corn flakes each morning as (unusually) breakfast cereals are not automatically provided. If you need any tea bags, coffee sachets of milk pots for your room you need to ask your waiter/waitress at breakfast. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times although you didn't actually see much of them! The shower rooms and toilets were shared but, in practice, always available when I needed to use them and scrupulously clean, as indeed was the entire property. It's obviously cheaper if you book your room direct with the Guest House rather than through a third-party web site. I travelled to Hereford by train so can't comment on the availability of car parking. In conclusion, I enjoyed my stay at the Holly Tree Guest House which met or exceeded my legitimate expectations for the very reasonable price which I paid.
