Hitchin Priory Hotel

This is a good 3 star hotel , we had a family room ( 3 friends ) it was comfortable, beds fine , towels and toiletries provided. Tea and coffee facilities so all good . Parking there . Bathroom in need of TLC but reflected in price . Location great , building impressive but could be so much better if money invested into it ! Breakfast chaotic , not busy in restaurant but disorganised, no one in charge , running out of most hot food , Juice, pasties , hot water - had to ask for everything. Staff nice enough but someone needs to take charge . Lots of improvements needed .

Was very happy considering the bad reviews , room clean , Bed comfy , breakfast good and staff very friendly. I Would stay again if needing a hotel in the area, didn’t give 5 stars as it is a bit rundown but that didn’t spoil our stay. Very handy having free parking

I have stayed here before and had a wonderful experience so chose to book again and recommended it to family members too. We booked rooms for one night, Double premium rooms and were looking forward to our stay. When we arrived we were met with what looked like a building site, they were setting up for a Halloween event so we were stepping over props and tools to book in. We were then issued keys to our rooms which were over in the priory court because they had zero space in the main hotel due to the construction of Halloween set. I had booked my room in June, I had received no notification about this event or the fact that the restaurant and bar was also closed , in fact , I was receiving messages on the day of arrival saying about how wonderful the new restaurant was and how great the ambience in there was, we should try it. We went to our rooms and both were far from premium, the mattresses was substantially larger than the bases, we had a leak coming from under the bath, my family members had a plug in heater as the radiator was broken, dirty carpets and threadbare chairs. We complained and were moved but to identical rooms, ok, no leaks but the mattresses were still huge in comparison to the bases, the bases were disgusting, the taps spun around in my families room, the list of issues was endless but there was always an excuse and the comment that they only have those rooms available. We had to stay as we had nowhere else to go, we went to the party we were in Hitchin for and returned to sleep. We had breakfast this morning , that was passable, nothing how it has been in the past and we packed up our rooms. What we didn't realise until them was that my family members still had key 44 on them and had used it to unlock room 54, then 55, we didn't try other rooms, only ours but we were disgusted that one key was opening all locks we tried. I brought this up with reception and was met with we will have to check this , I'd offered to show fottage I'd taken but they weren't interested, we were told it was probably the case that it was actually a master key on that keyring, no real apology. After this stay and all the negative experiences we certainly will not be staying there again, the standards have dropped dramatically over the past few years.
