The Stavrand

Absolutely loved my stay at the Stavrand! It was exactly what I wanted from a cozy winter escape. It did not feel pretentious, instead felt quite homey. The smores and games by the fire were a nice touch.

Exceptional stay in Sonoma. The room was well appointed, modern, and impeccably clean. The room was a nice sized space to stay with our dog and our infant (we had plenty of room for the hotel-provided pack-n-play and a large tummy time mat). The grounds are beautiful with redwoods, a large flower garden, and views of rolling hills. The restaurant on site is excellent -- we enjoyed a complimentary breakfast every day that was fantastic (strongly recommend the avo toast). We also tried the 4-course prix fix dinner and both the food and service exceeded expectations. The hotel is close enough to the local town to walk to lunch/dinner and only a 10 minute drive to Armstrong redwood forest. We can't wait to return to use the pool as our kiddo grows!

We were scheduled to stay mid march with family and have heard glowing reviews on Stavrand. Unfortunately we had a family emergency and had to immediately return home. While I can’t comment on the facility or the stay I can comment on how our scenario was handled. It was handled perfectly and unfortunately it seems everywhere the customer is not treated well anymore. Well not at the Stavrand… I can count on one hand how many stays at other 5 star hotels where there are people who actually care about their customers. Stavrand you impressed an old guy who rarely gets impressed anymore…keep it up because in today’s world you are one of a kind! Looking forward to staying soon!

Absolutely incredible. Top notch experience all around. The staff was courteous, knowledgeable and helpful. My wife and I stayed here as home base while we went to the redwoods and Sonoma. Absolutely incredible. The experience was pure luxury and the service I just can't speak highly enough about. Book this hotel!

The Stavrand fell way short of its promises of being a quiet, luxurious retreat. The hot water in our room was dysfunctional upon arrival, there was construction noise from a roofing project that was going on, and the staff (with some exceptions) seemed clueless. I would not stay here ever again. Money is better spent elsewhere.

We chose the Stavrand as we wanted to spend time in the Russian River Valley and they accepted dogs. The booking experience was very helpful as I called directly to make sure I understood what type of room we could choose given our two large dogs. The checkin experience was easy, and we were upgraded to a room with an outdoor hot tub, which was a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately, the tv did not work and we had planned to watch the bowl games (overNew Year weekend). Sofia went above and beyond to get us access to streaming which she did thru an HDMI cord to our laptop, which worked well all stay. We had dinner New Year’s Eve in the dining room and it was exceptional. We chose the wine pairings, which were great. The food was great for breakfast. We will definitely visit again. For the people who complained about coffee- we always bring our own Nespresso mini machine and pods to eliminate that problem. Fyi.

We loved our stay here. The staff were all so welcoming and accommodating. We appreciated how family friendly it was as we were traveling with our toddler. We definitely plan to come back!

The hotel property is beautiful and well maintained. There is no coffee service in the room, and no ceramic cups and no kettle, which I would expect for a nice hotel. We had to walk about 40 yards to the reception area to get coffee, sadly, in paper cups. The coffee itself, while locally produced (laudable) is terrible in flavor and weak. When a guest shows up for breakfast, anywhere, a staff member should immediately approach the table with a pot of coffer ready to pour. We were approached by staff 12 minutes after we were seated, and waited 5 more for the coffee, which was not good. Breakfast is advertised as included, but only three options are listed as included at the bottom of the breakfast menu. They were paltry in quality and quantity; and the other offerings, at significant prices, meant that you paid for them (average $20), and have to factor in the "free" breakfast cost that you already paid for, and gave up, to to buy the better choices. This makes a choice breakfast about $32. Dinner was delicious. Service was not good. Cocktails were served for 3 of us four, after a long delay, and the fourth had to wait and wait. Cocktails should be served together to a group. Dinner came at the same time as the delayed cocktails, not good. When salt is requested, one should not have to wait, as most salt users will not start eating their food without it.....I had to wait and wait. I would not stay here again because I feel the amenities were miserly and that colors my entire experience.

A truly excellent boutique hotel with no detail overlooked. All staff is well trained and happy to help, while at the same time not afraid to connect on a human level. Very clearly a good place to work. We received personal and practical tips that totally changed our excursions for the better. We went with two young children and felt very welcome and attended to. Bonus points if you go in October as you can pick perfect figs, pears and apples from their orchard. On our last day, Emily, the hotel’s GM and owner was pouring coffee at breakfast, supporting the team and meeting guests; for me, this says a lot about the operation. We didn’t eat dinner this time but will be sure to do so next time we visit considering the breakfast featured well sourced ingredients and beautiful plates. I ate the tomato toast with goat cheese and it was a nice change up from the ubiquitous avo toast you find everywhere else. My daughter was partial to the pancakes with apples from the orchard. Guerneville is an odd and delightful little town on the river with access to the ocean and the best of wine country while nestled in the redwoods.
