Pier Hotel

We only stayed for one night in room 106 but would stay again as it was a very comfortable stay. There are just a couple of issues that would’ve made it a perfect stay rather than a nice stay. The room was small but clean. The bed was very comfortable and the room was nice and warm. The bathroom had a smell of drains about it and we couldn’t get the TV to come on so some instructions for that would have been handy. We ate in the bar at lunch time – I had the veggie burger which was tasty but for the price you pay, I’d expect a bit more of a salad with it. My partner had the shepherds pie which looked amazing and home cooked. I had a wine and my partner had Doom bar on tap but they didn’t taste great – wine tasted cheap. Breakfast was ok but nothing special really – and slow to top up things like the bread and bowls of fruit. Would’ve preferred tinned tomatoes and button mushrooms rather than half a large portabella mushroom. The carpet on the stairs was a bit grubby and could’ve done with a vacuum but it wasn’t done in the time we were there. All of the staff were really nice and the position of the hotel right next to the beach can’t be any better.

Just had another very successful stay in the Pier. As usual everything was perfect. Room excellent with sea view. Location, food and staff all very high standard. We would highly recommend and will obviously be coming again. John and Wendy

This was our second stay for another trip down memory lane. Its an old building so must be a constant battle to maintain but everything worked except the bathroom extractor fan that didn't really register until we were leaving and I forgot to mention on checking out. Perhaps that could go on the checklist for room cleaners? We were well looked after. Our rooms on both occasions have been clean and comfortable. The included breakfast was excellent with a good selection of options, especially for us omnivores. I can't comment on vegetarian or vegan options as I didn't pay attention. The bar downstairs operates as The Pub on the Pier and gets very busy for both food and drink. The restaurant was quieter for eating but we enjoyed the bustle. We didn't use the wine bar. Despite being busy and during both our stays in June and October, the service, including for bar food, was quick and very efficient. All of the staff we met were cheerful, helpful, and polite, which can't always be easy when you are rushed off your feet. They do very well.
