The Inn on the Lake

To be honest I wasn't going to leave a review as I found this visit very disappointing and thats hard to admit as we absolutely love it here. We spent a week here for our honeymoon 21 years ago and have been regular visitors ever since. Its our special treat to ourselves, lock ourselves away from the stresses of the outside world. We always try and book the same room" our" room. This time it was sadly unavailable so we studied the floor plan and booked what we believe to be the next best, this booking was confirmed on email. When we arrived and were checking in we were told we had a different room and there were no notes on the booking stating we had booked a specific room. She said have a look at the room and if we didn't like it she would see what she could do. ( At this point there was already one couple in reception asking to speak to the manager about their room. ) We looked at the room we were given, it was smaller than the one we had booked and had no seating area which we love. The bed for some reason also didn't face the stunning view of the lake but instead faced the wall and TV.  Back in reception after saying we weren't happy with the room it was thankfully swiftly sorted. ( A third couple was now unhappy with their room )   Dinner everytime has always been lovely with plenty of choice for vegetarians. This year although there are several places to dine in the hotel, with the menus varying for meat eaters in each, the few choices for vegetarians sadly stayed the same.   The drain in the shower was blocked, we were a bit depressed by the entire day by this point so unblocked it ourselves rather than have the hassle of someone coming to the room.   Tried to order coffee at the bar, was told to go and sit down and come back later she was too busy !   Too many non residents spending the day at the hotel !    Nothing against people staying in cheaper accommodation we do the same ourselves the rest of the year but residents don't pay that extra amount to hear the people sat next to you loudly talk for a couple of hours about the events leading up to falling down the caravan steps drunk and not being found until the next morning. We've paid our price for the atmosphere to be relaxing and to be honest a bit posh. After that we had to hear her talk about her pulling her pants down in a field. Honestly I'd usually find this hilarious but when you've paid the price to pretend you're posh for a few days its annoying.   Breakfast, lovely the first day, totally forgotten about on the second day because of a wedding party next door. All the serving staff were prioritising them, people had eaten and left by the time we'd got our coffee and toast and that was only because we'd asked for it. Too many yapping little hand bag dogs. The owners treat them like babies and think that everyone loves them as much as they do. I really don't appreciate the dogs being sat on the owners knees drinking from bowls on the table. Hotel way exceeded expectations. We stayed in Fell rooms which were very spacious with space for two tub chairs.smelt newly refurnished, new carpet smell. Communal areas were spacious and comfortable, with big picture windows looking over the stunning view. The service was impeccable, no hassling you but also friendly and personable. The food was delicious and the restaurants were spacious and again all having the stunning views. Lovely interactions with other guests. While we were there the Blue Bird visited which was lovely. We loved watching a wedding but if there had been one every day it would have been a bit much for those like us who wanted quiet escapism. We will definitely go back.

We were invited as wedding guests to this lovely venue. The day was fantastic, good selection of drinks on offer and lovely food. Room was a reasonable size and clean. It was just far too expensive for what we got. Upgraded to a fell view superior room and most of the view was taken by the roof of the restaurant below. Definitely over charging as they know wedding guests will pay it! We thankfully had air-conditioning as it was a superior room. Friends had standard rooms and were unable to sleep because the rooms were so hot. We enjoyed our stay but I would pay less at neighbouring hotels if we were to visit the area again.

We had dinner in the hotel restaurant with cocktails served before the meal. It was one of the best meals I’ve had for many years (barring my wife’s cooking of course). We finished off the evening with a whisky down by the lake. We’ll definitely be going back next year.

Second time staying here and will return again. The location of this hotel is outstanding - a quiet spot in the centre of Glenridding with incredible views over the lake and the surrounding mountains. Our room was lovely and had been recently refurbished. The only suggestion is to consider installing working air conditioning, but it was the hottest weekend of the year. Excellent food and the staff, particularly in the Lake View restaurant, provided great service. Can’t wait to stay again!
