It has been 40 years since we honeymooned in Scotland and now we wanted special experiences and views everywhere we went on this vacation. Glencoe House was one of the highlights of this trip, and by far the best hotel experience for us ever. We stayed for 3 nights and had time after our daily 15-mile hikes on the West Highland Way to explore the surrounding gardens and a lake built by the original owner as a gift to his wife! Glencoe House is maintained in its original historic splendor, with furnishings that are beautiful. Upon entering, we were greeted by James, a Scot in a kilt, who showed us to our suite (number 5) and gave us a historic orientation. This suite, maybe one of the "smaller" ones, had a huge bathroom (shower, sinks, heated towels), another room with side by side soaking tubs (with bubble bath, soaking salts, heated towels) with an incredible loch view, a large bedroom with king size bed, a sitting room with a grand piano and comfortable seating, and our own private dining room, again with a beautiful loch view, for en suite dining of every meal. The food was excellent, and the servers and service were excellent. Where else do you get a visit from a french chef asking what you would like for dinner? The breakfasts included a wide array of Scottish foods, as well as traditional fare. The refrigerator and bar in the dining room had any type of wine, whisky, soda, and other things. The hotel and grounds were always nice and quiet, despite it being completely occupied every night. The entire time we were thinking that this must be how royalty really lives! We have traveled a lot over the years and stayed in a large number of great hotels, including some of the best in Scotland. Glencoe House is the best of the best!
