I booked 4 nights with La Stella d'Oro through my Capital One portal for our first 4 days in Italy. The first night, we arrived just after 8PM to an alley entrance dotted with commercial scale trash receptacles & motos. The building is actually an apartment block with residents and a B&B, it is not a hotel. There is no elevator, It is a large stairwell with timed lights and a strange smell. This stairwell is shared with residents of the building. When we arrived at the door just after 8PM, I reviewed the travel portal booking and did not see any special check in instructions. Looking at the website, they wanted us to contact them to arrange check in. So we waited 2 and a half hours, called and messaged their 2 provided numbers repeatedly, but unfortunately no one responded. I also searched my email and phone for any message from B&B. No effort was made to contact me despite me spending over 500 euros on a booking. At around 11PM, I had to book a charming hotel down the street where a nice gentleman welcomed us and we crashed for the night, as I had to get up at 7AM to rent a car. Having just settled at a charming 4 star hotel that was cheaper, I asked if we could just cancel the reservation. Review my attached correspondence with the B&B over WhatsApp to get a sense of my tone and diplomacy, which was not reciprocated. You can see that communication with this B&B was at the least, difficult. After several odd messages and a message deleted by the staff for reason unknown, we arrived back to the hotel after a wonderful day out at a castle in the Chianti Rufina region. When we arrived the door was buzzed open from above. No one helped us bring our bags up to the rooms. After lugging these up the stairs, we were greeted by the cold and unwelcoming gaze of a staff member behind a desk. He curtly showed us a bill for 3 nights and asked for an additional 33 euros (cash only) in city tax. He then asked us if we would like to do the breakfast, stating with a lack of manner that he needed to know now. There was a female companion who did not appear to work their who offered us water in a seemingly apologetic effort. We were then given a distant and unwilling introduction to the B&B itself before being curtly left to ourselves.  Because we were not impolite or demanding of anything at this time, we felt very unwelcome. My wife & I discussed and thought it best to be polite and simply check in because it was a small operation and not a hotel. We assumed that they were greatly irritated that they needed to refund us a night from a hospitality perspective. We had not pushed for this but it seemed apparent from the bill. While this might make the behavior make sense in light of this, I never received a refund for the 4th night. So the behavior was bewildering to say the least.  We had paid in advance and could not leave, which I would have liked to do immediately after this interaction. The stay at the hotel was amazing! Perfect location close to main sights and the railway station! A cute room with an authentic interior, a comfortable large bed. A welcome kit, a lot of pleasant details that create comfort and a feeling that you have come to visit close friends. The most delicious breakfast on my trip was at this hotel. The host Enrico was friendly, ready to help with any of our questions. Thanks a lot for hospitality. We will be glad to return here!

Great location. Room was decent enough. Fell foul of the rather draconian restricted check in time of 2pm to 6pm due to late flight arriving at 8pm Nobody on site and disappointed that there was no advanced warning of that. Nor any attempt to call us with instructions for late check in. When I called the contact number I was told we had to pay a call out fee of 30 euros and that I was a lucky man that he could come out. Have to say not a great way to treat guests or create a first impression.

My wife and I stayed for 5 nights at La Stella D'Oro b and b in Florence. The place was in a great position to visit all the sights. Florence is a bustling vibrant city and it was nice to stay somewhere that was within walking distance of all the action. The rooms were light and airy. The place was spotless. The breakfast was varied and really good value for money. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. All in all this was 5 star value.

What a wonderful stay - we were sorry to have to leave! We stayed for five nights and everything was fantastic and all the staff were perfect hosts! Enrico, the manager, is so wonderful. The breakfast is so generous and we enjoyed an amazing variety of food, fresh fruits, and hot beverage options. The rooms are so clean, with great pillows! The bathroom amenities were great, and the shower pressure was the best! Enrico gave us some recommendations for where to eat and helped with the laundry service (they picked up from the hotel and dropped off within hours with perfectly folded items). Seriously, stop looking and pick this place for your trip to Florence!

We just stayed at La Stella D’Oro for 3 nights on our vacation to Italy. The room was very clean and the AC worked very well. The owner was very hospitable and breakfast was delicious each morning. We really enjoyed the location and found most major Florence attractions walkable from the hotel. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it for your stay in Firenze!

The location, the breakfast, the comfort of the rooms, Enrico's attitude and behavior were great. He also agreed to take my package order on my behalf before my stay, thank you very much. If I had written this review only after meeting Enrico, I would recommend it to everyone without question and I would definitely recommend them to stay here. But..; There is another employee named Filippo at the hotel and unfortunately we had to deal with him at the welcome. I summarize the incident without any additives; * We checked into the hotel and he welcomed us with a smile * We gave our card to pay, but the pos device refused for what I think was due to the communication problem of the pos device. But at that moment, I received an expenditure message and the payment was reflected on my card expenditure screen. * I asked him that there was a problem, that the payment was received from me but I did not know the reason for the rejection of the POS device, I asked him to call his bank to understand the problem or to check the POS transactions on the website. * He said he could not call the bank, he did not know the password for the website. But I asked him to confirm that if the payment was received, I would have paid twice. I also told him that I was there for 4 nights and he could confirm it tomorrow or the next day. * In the meantime I went to the room and called my bank and they gave me a confirmation code. They asked me to share this code with the company and they would get confirmation from their bank. * I told Filippo the code as instructed by my bank, but things got very ugly from that point on because Filippo started accusing me of fraud. He started to make very ugly statements and raised his voice, saying that this was not normal, that according to the hotel's policy I should pay immediately or at the latest the next day, and how would he know if we were going to leave early in the morning even though we said we would be there for 4 nights. If there is a camera recording, they can turn it on and watch it. The only thing I said was "why don't you want to call your bank?". After all, you will call your bank, not my bank, right? In the meantime, in order to reduce the tension, I asked him that I could pay this reservation from another card at that moment or in cash the next day (it was 21.00), but if it was detected that I made a duplicate payment, would he refund me? But I also told him that it would be healthier for him to call his bank first. * Filippo never listened to me and treated me like a fraudster, constantly tense and accusatory. At that moment I looked for another facility but I could not find a place, if I had found one, I would definitely have left. * I called my bank and told them that I had a problem and to cancel the payment. Filippo initially greeted us and was the friendliest and most helpful throughout our stay! Location was perfect, very close to everything in walking distance but quiet and relaxing for sleep. Room had everything you need, and was very comfortable. Hope he got my money back for the banana -thank you again :)
