Hotel Magenta

This is a family-run hotel a short walk from the S. M. Novella railway station, the historic centre of Florence, and quite near to the Ponte Vecchio. It's an ideal base for visiting Florence, particularly as the organised day-trips by tour companies start and end at the railway station, a real bonus when some start just after 7am. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, and really made us feel welcome. Our room was 302, and was very clean and comfortable, particularly the bed, the best sleep on a two-week trip to several locations across Italy. Breakfast was good and ideal for a day of walking. Our only issue was other guests, two nights sharing the same floor as some Americans who kept their doors open so that they could shout conversations to each other across the corridor, came in late whooping and slamming doors, and were generally a nuisance to be nearby to. The staff were quick to advise them to keep the noise down whenever they heard them. That aside, we enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Magenta and it has all that you need for a city break in Florence.

Don't stay here! Photos are misleading. Pros - Receptionist was friendly and helpful re: places to visit, restaurants etc. Cons - Horrendous odour from drains. We left after 1 day as we couldn't stay in our room because of this. Other issues: The single USB point in the room didn't work. The bathroom sink plug jammed in so sink so sink not usable. Water pressure in shower extremely poor. Bathroom was impractically tiny (not reflected in photos).

This hotel was a lovely walk from the centre of Florence, we found it easily after arriving by train. Checkin went smoothly and we got a room for 4 on the 4th Floor. The room was compact yet had everything we needed with a beautiful view. With 4 people it was too hot even with the aircon but reception kindly gave us a fan which was welcomed and appreciated. The staff gave us lovely recommendations of nearby restaurants. Beds were comfortable and breakfast did the job. Tony the dog was given lots of love by our daughters, he is gorgeous.

Let me start by saying that the reviews on this hotel are quite flattering & positive, but that was not our experience at all. Travelling with friends for 12 days throughout Italy, this was, by far, the worst hotel we stayed in. The stench, and I mean stench, emanating in our room (Room 106 on the 1st floor) was quite sickening. After complaining, more than once, we were provided with an air purifier for the remainder of our stay, which was noisy at night and basically only masked the smell, & meant we did not really sleep well. We purchased our own air freshener from a local supermarket. We were very glad to leave! Whilst the location is quite close to the station, & supposed to be located "in the most elegant area of the city", that would depend on which way you approach the hotel. From the station, the quickest walk leads through a somewhat seedy area, and we certainly felt a little uncomfortable. If you approach from the riverside, though (which is not convenient to the station) then the neighbourhood seems a little more upmarket. We overhead reception staff tell others (when they checked in) to avoid the station area at night, something that we were not advised of. It's overpriced for what it is and what it offers

This hotel is fine for a short stay and for the price. It’s a prime example of ‘you get why you pay for’. The location is great. Only 1 block away from the riverside and really close to the train station. Very walkable to several attractions. The rooms are spacious and clean. However, there were no doonas on the bed, only a flat top sheet, which got cold at night. The safe did not work. There was also a putrid smell to the room that stunk of farts mixed with vinegar - quite unpleasant. Lol. Maybe a sewerage issue. But you get used to it after the smell initially hits you every time you walk in. The rooms are also not very soundproof, you can hear everything going on outside and every night the sound of the toilet water running was constant. The breakfast could also be improved with small things such as replacing plates and cutlery more often, putting out fresh food once it gets low. Overall, this hotel is OK.

The hotel was smelling terrible! The people in the hotel did not understes that it was a problem!!! They had a machine they could put in the room, but that only made the smell mixed with clorine, and we felt sick! Our trip went on, but the smell were still with us! Do not stay here!

In the lobby we where met with a terrible smell. But not as bas as the smell in our room. It was a smell of sewage. The staff told us they had a machine to remowe the smell while we vere out. When we came back, the smell where still there just mixed with chlorine. The smell was so bad that we could bearly not breath. Everything we had in the room smells bad for the rest of our trip!

The hotel is amazing, walking distance from all main tourist spots in Florence. Besides that, all accommodations are very comfortable, breakfast is great and most importantly the family who owns it is always there and is incredibly nice, friendly and dedicated to giving their guests the best time. Strongly recommend it!

Staff at hotel Magenta were extremely helpful in giving restaurant advice and booking taxis for us. The breakfast is excellent, very generous and comprehensive. It's a very good location, near the Arno and not too far from train station.
