Northop Hall Country House Hotel

I stayed over while working in the area. It was a lovely drive up to the hotel. The restaurant for breakfast was nice and fresh. The room was a good size for the price and looked like it had recently been refurbished. I will stay again, as it's cheaper than most I stay in all over the UK. It looks like they are refurbishing the place, so it should be good to see what else is done. No evening meal, but attentive staff to let me know my takeaway arrived.

Not sure why it’s getting all the bad reviews! I arrived in the evening after a long drive, I knew I couldn’t get a meal or drink as I’d actually read what I was booking, Janet on reception couldn’t have been more helpful and said if I placed a delivery order she’d bring it up to my room or she would call me when it arrived and I could use a table in the restaurant (which I did). I spoke with a number of other guests as I saw some posts about groups of men etc, and as a woman on my own I did have concerns, but they all said they were more than happy. I also asked Janet and she was honest and said a handful of people are housed here by the local council - not the first time I’ve come across this and I think most hotels now have these types of guests, she also said she works alone most nights and never had any concerns about safety, but it is sad for her and all the staff that people are putting out misinformation as they are clearly trying hard to improve the hotel. The room I was in was basic but clean and comfortable, it’s an old building and the pictures were pretty much correct for what I got. Next time I’m in the area I’ll pay a bit more for a bigger room, though it’s still cheap even with breakfast included! There is work going on, but from what I saw it was all to improve the hotel, I don’t think that’s a negative? All in all I got value for money, if you want perfection then pay more or don’t stay in an old building 🤷🏼‍♀️ also Dylan was a cute addition and will certainly come on my future travels!

Upon walking into our room we noticed a horrible smell what you would smell when you enter an old people’s home. The room was basic. No option for an evening meal just what we wanted to hear after driving 6hours. The hotel is dated and in need of a complete refurbishment. The carpet was filthy and there was painting equipment left in the hallway. Will not be returning and would advise to avoid

Dirty, cold, tired hotel. We didn’t stay after seeing our room. Please see my photos. There are two parts to this hotel that are linked by a corridor. You enter through the main door where the reception is. We were then given room 311, that is up the stairs, along the corridor and back down the stairs on the other side. We realised that we were then in an extension that you can see from the carpark. The room was cold, there were dead spiders, cobwebs everywhere. The bedsheets were clean, but no mattress protector. The bathroom was dirty and scruffy. We looked around, didn’t unpack and left. I felt sorry for the guy on reception, who was very polite when we checked in. He just said sorry when I gave him the key back.

I recently drove over two hours for what I hoped would be a relaxing Easter break with my young child. On arrival, the hotel felt eerily quiet, with only a few cars in the car park. Several men were hanging around the grounds, and a minibus arrived shortly after with more individuals. While the entrance to the hotel looked grand, the room itself was very disappointing. Something didn’t feel right, especially as a mum travelling alone with my young child, so I made the decision to leave. Later research revealed posts—some from the hotel itself—suggesting it offers accommodation as part of a community support program. I fully support the need to help vulnerable people, but I also believe guests should be made aware of this at the time of booking. When I asked directly, the hotel denied this, which only added to my concerns. Unfortunately, the company refused to refund my stay, despite us not staying. I feel very let down by the whole ordeal.

This venue is currently being used to house individuals on early release from prison, some of these people are very dangerous individuals. You see them hanging around in large groups of males, which is intimidating as a lone female. They walk around the place vaping with no respect whatsoever.
