Having sent the hotel a couple of queries by email well before my stay, I was distinctly unimpressed that, at the time of writing, I still haven't had a response to either. To my mind, that is fairly symptomatic of how this place operates. I was at check-in right on the stroke of 3pm, first in the queue. The lady said 'take a seat' I'll be there in a minute. So I did, as the queue grew and grew. The next thing I see is the aforementioned woman with her coat on, heading for the exit! I just sat and waited as the entire guest list checked in before me. I was in, as requested, accessible accommodation with a wet room, immediately through the nearest door to reception. It was very clean, typically furnished as per brand guidelines, while the bathroom was very well equipped. I liked the Bayliss and Harding toiletries. Only one set of towels though, which meant using damp ones the next morning, the heated towel rail not appearing to work. Being right beside a quite busy roundabout, with a branch of Lidl handy for provisions, as well as the famed middle aisle, I was worried about traffic noise. But the sound proofing was excellent and there were no disturbances from the road at all. But, dear oh dear, for a relatively modern building, the floors creaked dreadfully. It was unbelievable! I'd planned, with checkout being at midday, to spend the morning catching up on work, until I discovered that there was not a single bar of mobile signal in the room. Even in the restaurant, EE couldn't manage more than a single bar. Broadband speed is diabolically slow. The free version managed a parsimonious 0.87mbps upload and download speed, forcing me to spend £5 for a few hours on their 'Premium' product. That was advertised at 8mbps, and was within a short distance of that. BUT Premier Inns should, nowadays, be offering fast broadband free of charge to all guests, like the vast majority of hotels now do. Good internet access is now an essential part of modern life. The room was cold, despite me carefully following the instructions, the extraction fan in the bathroom sounded akin to a jumbo jet taking off and the much-trumpeted mattress was horribly soft and did not give a good night's sleep. My repose was not aided by folk walking past the door on those unbelievably creaky floorboards. I can't think that any of the issues I have raised can be addressed by the time I return in a couple of weeks or indeed ever.
