Spent a fantastic two night break at Farlam Hall last weekend and found the whole experience superb. From the moment we arrived it was clear that everyone’s primary concern was that we should enjoy our visit as much as possible. In this they succeeded spectacularly. The building and its grounds are beautiful. It is both immaculately clean and very well appointed. The junior suite we called home over the weekend was lovely. The standard of food served throughout was both consistent and amazingly good. A separate review of Cedar Tree and Enkel to follow. It was great to be greeted on arrival by Hrishi Desai, someone we never got to opportunity to meet at Gilpin. I can honestly say the man is as modest as he is talented. Suffice to say, Farlam Hall is a fabulous place to spend time relaxing and indulging in both fabulous food and seamless, friendly service.

A Five Star Cumbria Experience! From the moment I received a call asking about allergies for the meal 24 hours in advance, I anticipated a first rate experience and I wasn’t disappointed! The setting and grounds and delightful entrance to the building set the tone and this continued with the hearty welcome and the fantastic clock and its history being explained by one of the very friendly staff who proceeded to make an equally fantastic cocktail. The lovely vibe continued in the sitting room with a cozy open fire and the meal that followed hit the spot after a mad day! Service was impeccable and very much appreciated from the table service, assistance with a mobile phone being charged to the discretion re the muddy attire after a day at an archeological dig and visits to Bewcastle and Hadrian’s Wall. Couldn’t have been made more welcome! Thank you to the team at Farlam Hall!

The Cottage at Farlam Hall was a magnificent stay. We all wished that we could have stayed for several more days just to enjoy the property. The spacious rooms and top end furnishings were excellent. The grounds were beautiful and perfect for a stroll or just taking in the view. Most of all, the staff went above and beyond at every turn. They assisted us with our plans and helped us with the logistics of our car rentals. . I cannot thank them enough. Lastly, we dined at Cedar Tree, which is an experience you must not miss. The food and the service exceeded our expectations. I don’t think I have ever had such a delightful meal. If you have the opportunity to stay at Farlam Hall do not pass it up.

We enjoyed a one night stay at Farlam Hall and can't recommend this highly enough. Everything was superb from the moment we arrived, even being met at our car and then greeted by staff and, to my delight, Hrishikesh Desai himself, in the reception area. What a fantastic welcome. We were given a tour of the hotel so we knew where everything was and I'm sure if it hadn't been raining we could have asked for a tour of the kitchen garden too. That's one for next time! Our room was spacious and well equipped and fresh milk was brought up straight away - no fiddly milk sachets here! We were at the front of the hotel and had comfy seats to sit and enjoy the views over the garden. Everything was immaculate and it was clear that nothing would have been too much trouble if we needed anything. We ate in the Cedar Tree restaurant and enjoyed (an understatement!) the 12 course tasting menu along with the wine flight (for one of us). I might have expected that, with 12 courses, there would be something we didn't enjoy so much but it truly was an exceptional menu from start to finish with every dish a real delight. Highlights for me were "Garden spinach and chicken" - crispy chicken skin and spinach in a tempura batter (only on one side - how do they do that!), perfectly balanced with sweet yoghurt and tamarind chutney. Tastes and textures in perfect harmony. The Cornish lobster was exceptional and the accompanying carrot cannelloni was superb. All the restaurant staff were so well informed and knowledgeable about the menu and so obviously wanted us to enjoy the experience. The sommelier had a wealth of knowledge about the wines and matched them perfectly throughout the meal. Breakfast was delicious with local produce very much in evidence (as it was for dinner). The homemade granola was wonderful. I could go on but there aren't enough superlatives to describe this outstanding experience. The room, the food, the service and the staff were all exceptional (that word again!). We have already booked to return.

From the moment we arrived until we left, the staff could not do enough to make our stay as amazing as possible. The food and the ambience are incredible. We were fortunate to have a chat with Hirisikesh Desai, the chef who designs all the menus. He is an incredibly humble man and he emphasised the team approach with his chefs. He comes up with the ideas and they translate them into to the most amazing food with outstanding flavours. Words cannot do justice to the food, you need to taste it! The tranquility of the grounds at Farlam immediately help you to relax. The rooms are spacious and contain everything you might need to chill. We have fallen love with this place and will be returning soon. Thank you to ALL the staff who make this place so special
