Sebatana Rhino Lodge

I have just come back from a week at Rhino Lodge, which was incredible. When we got to the airport, the tour guide was there from Newmarket to take us to Rhino Lodge. This was a smooth process. From the airport, we went to our first stop for lunch at a place about an hour and a half away from the airport. The food was nice and there was free wine, always a bonus. We have been to SA before, so this wasn't our first time. We went on from lunch to the lodge, which is approx an hour away. The ride was fine, with no issues, and when we got to the lodge, the staff members greeted us with fresh flannels and drinks. It was lovely. That even we got given food and I can honestly say you will not be disappointed the food was amazing. If anything, they give you so much that you're fed up but the end of your time there. The food is always fresh and you try new animals every night. The chef Alex and Logan (i think) were great as we had someone who only ate certain food, and they were always accommodating. The lodge we stayed in was lovely. Big airy, and the bathroom was lovely, too. The bath was pretty big. It was always clean and I can't fault the staff members there. There were always towels, loo roll, hot showers, a mini bar (chargable), kettle, etc. The bar staff are always on hand to help, and at the start of the week if you want a particular cocktail which they don't have if you tell them earlier they can get the items for you later in the week. Tea and coffee are always on hand, though at the lodge, along with hot chocolate. Tours and guides The trips are worth it. However, the tribal evening was disappointing. It told us it was a 3 hour experience but was only 2. The story telling by the tour guide was great and the dancers were also great but it wasn't worth the 75 euros - this is just my opinion as I have been to another tribal evening which was incredible. We had great tour guides. Johnson was great, but he was the other groups guide. We had Harry, and he didn't disappoint every safari. we got to see new animals, and he would stop to talk to us about them, including the birds - some tour guides miss the birds out. He tried his best in the night safari, and we saw a far bit. He also let my son sit up front to help him. Harry was great. The only thing I would say is that May is their winter in SA, which is why we went. However, the timings for the national park and a couple of the other tours weren't right. The animals are not coming out as early as they would in the summer, which means when you leave the park, they are just coming out. We often would be at the parks by 7 or 8 in the morning when really we could have pushed it to 9 or 10. The tours were also only half a day. Again, if they were a whole day, we could have made the most of it, but it often felt rushed or upset we didn't see animals because we had to leave as they were coming out. We stayed at Rhino Lodge: clean area and lodges, excellent food! Staff was polite. We highly recommend to take trip package - we attended to all trips and it was fun! We also took drink packages and it was too much, because we didn’t have enough time to drink wine and drinks because we were all the time touring around…..

Honestly this is one of the best holidays I have been on! Booked through Hays in Coventry c/o Newmarket Holidays. From the time we arrived until the day of departure we were well looked after and kept upto date throughout the whole trip. We had a well structured programme of activities throughout the trip which our guides ensured we were kept too and kept us on time for. Our main guide was Floral in my group but we also had Jay and Johnson throughout the trip. They were the BEST and educated us on all the animals, culture and ensured we were kept safe at all times during all the game drives, safaris and transporting us to different locations on the trip. The staff in the resort itself were exceptional from the chefs, servers, bar staff and housekeeping which also made the holiday really enjoyable. Plus the food was something else! we had a large buffet style hot breakfast, lunch and a full 3 course dinner each day. Was a great opportunity to try lots of different food you wouldn't have a home and also to a very high standard. The accommodation was exceptional, I was in a hut with a really large living area and lovely bathroom facilities. The air conditioning was a life saver due to us staying at the beginning of December where the temps reached 40 degrees!
