good service with subtle bus to airport

On our way to Flagstaff Arizona AA messed everything up and left us stuck in Chicago for two days so we needed a place to stay. I did the best search I could have nearby hotels to the airport with shuttles and found this one. We stayed two nights at $200 a night which I found was way over charged for what you get. The hotel offers a “free” hotel shuttle which for the nightly cost nothing is “free” here. But for what it was worth the shuttle worked fine and runs I believe they said every half hour you must sign up the day before. We tried to sign up the night we arrived for Wednesday but was informed we would have to wait until the day prior ( makes no sense but sure). Upon arrival the hotel is located directly next to the BET Rivers Casino ( practically the same parking lot). The exterior was tired looking nothing fancy or flashing it looked like an airport hotel. If you do have a care they charge you daily to par. We got our room key and went to find our room, the lobby clearly has been redone but the rest of the hotel has not been. The halls are very worn and tired and just feel and smell old and outdated and the rugs needed a good vacuum. We got to the elevator to find a “ out of order sign” we had to travel to the other side of the hotel to find the working elevator. We entered our room to find a room that smelled of cigarettes, the shower curtain was hanging off and trash bags and towels scattered on the floor. We went back to the desk and explained to them what we found and than requested a first floor room so we didn’t have to deal with broken elevators. She stated the room was listed as clean and got us another room. We had a king bed , a couch , coffee table, large TV and mini fridge and desk. The large TV seemed nice until we found out we only had about 10 channels all together but found we could log into Netflix etc via the tv so we had to do that. The woman who checked us in was professional and polite. The room was awkwardly situated with the tv on the side of the bed and the bed facing the windows over looking the parking lot. The room reminded me of a casino room that was tired and I dated. It was not filthy but did not feel the cleanest. Some hair in the shower and no actual vent in the bathroom caused black mold spots on the bathroom walls. We also called for extra pillows and waited a hour or more to get no pillows so we had to go to the desk. The bed was not very comfortable and the pillows once played on became completely flat and I had to stack multiple pillows to even support my head. The “comforter” was so thin and cheap that a fan could have blown it away. The AC worked well but was extremely loud all night as you slept. The lobby has a bistro that was convenient but they are clearly taking advantage of the customers with what they are charging. $15-$16 for a small cheeseburger etc. they have wine that is listed to find out they are out of it. I travel all the time and I am a Marriott Ambassador and Lifetime Titanium member and I put this Courtyard Marriott as 1 of my best stays I have had in a long time. First I need to mention the staff - they are absolutely phenomenal in so many ways. TJ is the GM and from the 1st time I spoke to him on the phone about my upcoming reservation he was super helpful and was very receptive to all of my requests. I had to postpone my reservation twice due to medical issues and he was really understanding about that too. All in all he is a fabulous GM!! The front desk staff that I interacted with were all so so friendly and helpful. Sabrina was pretty much my go to person and literally she helped me with extending my reservation and checked me in and trust me - this hotel is lucky to have her!! Maribel was also at the front desk a lot and she was also very nice and friendly and assisted me. I met Joanna who helped me over the phone and she is great. I briefly met Joy the Assistant GM only once I believe but again, very friendly. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few staff but overall the staff all really really care and want the guest to have the best stay they can. And in this day in age imo that is getting harder and harder to find. As for the hotel itself, I was upgraded to a 1 bedroom suite and I thought it met my needs perfectly. It was spacious, the tv was big with lots of channels, the wifi was fast and reliable and housekeeping was on point. The location imo is fabulous because it's right across the street from a big casino, and there are lots of restaurants that are very close driving distance, as well as O'hare is about 8 minutes away. All in all I can't wait to return and I'm sure my next stay will be just as good!!
