My husband, Fred and I found the most wonderful B&B. The Open Gates in Darien more than exceeded our expectations! From the warm welcome we received to the most excellent breakfast presentation at our departure! One reason for our visit to Darien was to visit the Sugar Marsh Cottage which to our surprise was just across the street! Oh, those chocolates! We also took in the Waterfront Wine shop, the Nautical Treasures….all so delightful! We hit the happy hour at the Oaks Cedar Bar (which we highly recommend) and finished our day with dinner at Skippers on the River! Thank you Zack for your generous hospitality! For a slower pace in comfort we highly recommend enjoying Zack and Carrie Mae’s hospitality. A beautiful property in historic Darien. Park the car for the weekend and walk the town from this convenient location. Local food, shopping, art is within a ten minute walk from the elegant manor on a quiet church park square. Darien itself is convenient to other attractions on the coast. Prepare to be amazed by an impressive culinary breakfast in the dining room along with leisurely conversation with other guests. Our room over the old carriage house was quiet, the bed was expansive with comfortable crisp sheets and fluffy comforter. An excellent weekend to share as a couple.

Probably the best B&B we have ever stayed in, and we have stayed in lots! Darien is a charming town full of character. Open Gates is a wonderful place in a beautiful setting. Every room has been meticulously styled, apparently that is down to Carrie, who clearly has an excellent eye. We had the Island Room, with a delightfully comfortable four poster bed. And the communal rooms are a luxurious joy. Zach was a perfect host, even producing tea to proper English standards, with freshly boiled water - unobtainable elsewhere in the States! He produced a delicious and pleasingly presented breakfast especially for us in the morning. We hope to return and would definitely encourage anyone else to visit - spoil yourself!

Very comfortable B&B. Great host & wonderful breakfast. This is a very good place to spend a few days & the entire place is well maintained & comfortable. It’s a short walk to the docks & several restaurants for dinner. We will definitely stay again the next time we’re in the area.

Heads up history and cuusine lovers! Visiting OPen Doors Bed and Breakfast was like passing through a portal to the past...journeying back to Colonial America....and eating and sleeping like royalty! The brilliant young owners of Open Gate B & B have created an unique, farm-to-table breakfast menu that accomodates diverse dietary styles--from plant-forward eating to the traditional bacon-and-eggs southern breakfast! The setting of the historic home is ideal---it is in a "movie-set" neighborhood near the colonial fort, Fort King George......which was settled in the 18th century by Scottish Highlanders. Open Gates is the bet kept secret in coastal Georgia. Visit Darien, Georgia and treat yourself to this remarkable bed and breakfast inn!

Open Gates was a wondeful stopping point on our way from Sanibel, FL to Midlothian, VA and we stopped again on our way back home. Zack and Carrie were excellent hosts and I would highly recommend staying at Open Gates. The king bed was very comfortable and the breakfast that was served was delicious. It was close to I-95, so it was very convenient which was a big plus for us.

This was our 2nd time staying at Open Gates B&B. We have discovered that Darien is a great home base for many activities in the Georgia Barrier Islands region. We were lucky to discover this place a year ago. Getting to meet and know our hosts Zach and Carrie added to the charm of the place. Zack is an excellent chef and went out of his way to accommodate our unique dietary needs and the breakfasts he prepared were delicious! If you are passing through the area and just looking for a place for the night or if you're looking to stay in the area for a while you could do no better than the Open Gates B&B. Highly recommended!

Fabulous B&B! My husband and I stayed in the beautiful carriage house which was comfy and immaculate. Also, very quiet. The chocolates in the room were appreciated and enjoyed! The owner was super friendly and hospitable! Breakfast was beautifully served and delicious. Don’t miss the homemade chocolate chip cookies in the afternoon! Definitely worth hanging around for and grabbing a few or grabbing a bunch! The grounds of the inn and the surrounding neighborhood are so pretty. Loved all of the oaks with the dripping moss! There is a lovely park across the street with a fountain to visit. Also, run over to Sugar Marsh Cottage across the street for yummy chocolates. The inn is within walking distance of the cute little town of Darien. We enjoyed the market held downtown and dinner at Skipper’s. Our stay at Open Gates was definitely a 10 and we would definitely return!

The owner was very accommodating when we arrived. He helped us with our luggage and showed us to our room also around the house making us feel at home. The bedroom and bathroom was clean and comfortable. The king size bed was everything I hoped it would be. It supported my back well which is a concern when traveling. I really looked forward to the breakfast especially the bacon and the main entrees. They were delicious. The owner of "Open Gates B&B" was a chef on cruise lines and private yachts. The breakfasts were never disappointing. If you are looking for a relaxing and peaceful time away from your normal routine this is the place to stay.
