Anchor Inn Hotel and Suites

Stayed in the annex with 1 queen/1 double. It looks bigger online. Room was very uncomfortable to where you couldn't watch tv from bed because it was a side view. There was a notice not to run the hair dryer or microwave unless you turn off the A/C. Bathroom had no room to put anything. I was looking forward to this place but was disappointed. They have a communal deck for views but if you sit down all you see are wood slats. Location is good. On the plus side the food at Georgie's is quite good and the pub downstairs has entertainment and you can get screeched in. Also the people that worked there are very nice. Sorry to say I wouldn't stay there again but I would eat there and go to the pub.

Such a beautiful place! Every time we return, there is something new added or improved. The hotel is lovely. Most comfortable beds and pillows, beautiful artwork and just a super cozy feel. The restaurant is absolutely incredible. I always feel like I’m returning home when I stay at the Anchor Inn and dine at Georgie’s. The staff know you by name and it’s truly a gem in one of my most favourite places on the island.

The Anchor Inn has some suites in a building located up a steep hill, 2-minutes from the main building (with restaurant and bar). It's a fairly ordinary room with a kitchen including.a full-size cooker, table and chairs and a view over the bay. The bed however is small and a little soft, the sofa and chair very soft and there's noise from upstairs due to the wood construction of the place. Breakfast can be had at a small cafe down the hill (which also offers rooms), and the hotels restaurant is very good. Overall, a fair place to stay though Twillingate as a location may not set your heart on fire.

At first glance the hotel didn't seem much, how wrong we were. Very pleasant, spacious room with all the amenities. Good view of the bay. Spacious parking. And, without fail, all the staff were friendly and helpful - it's not often a lady working in the laundry offers to help you with your luggage. Very good stay, highly recommended.

We are from Nova Soctia and in early May 2024 took our first long-awaited trip to Newfoundland. The entire trip was amazing - simply beautiful and rugged country side and vistas, the friendly reception, accommodating reaction from so many people given that many facilities had not yet opened for the season. Our only dark spot was with the Anchor Inn in Twillingate. We booked for 2 nights and within an hour of arriving, received a call that required us to return to St. John's the next day. We told the desk immediately to give them a chance to re-book the room and we were shocked when we were told on leaving their cancellation policy is a minimum of 72 hours notice and we would have to pay for both nights. Given the time of the year and the fact that we let them know immediately, we felt, the cancellation policy aside, this should have been waved. (in full transparency, we were offered a credit for a future stay which will never happen). We told the cleaning staff we were leaving and know that they made up the room ready to rebook. When we checked later in the day, there was no vacancy, indicating that, in the end, the Anchor Inn got paid twice for that night. Not exactly in the Newfoundland spirit and a disappointing end to our trip.

We were in NFLD for the first time this spring and had centered our vacation around the St.John's area. Unfortunately there were no icebergs in the southern region so we ended up day-tripping to Twillingate to get up close and personal with the icebergs. (Iceberg Quest was also a 5* experience - we did both the St.Johns & Twillingate). After a long drive up and 3 hours out on the water I was not looking forward to driving 4.5 hours back to St.John's so we decided to get a room. The Anchor Inn was really great, the room was a basic, clean standard room with a nice view of the harbor. It was the people and the atmosphere that made this a 5*. Great little restaurant and they had live music provided by Mike Sixonate, it was a fabulous show - Exactly what one would expect from a Newfoundland Pub.
