Dominion House

Our two night stay at Dominion House could not have been any better ~ it was perfect! From the very beginning with our reservation taken by Bobbie, to the outstanding breakfast prepared by Sylvia. to David giving us a tour and the other nice young ladies at the reception desk, you could not ask for more. Our room was very clean and beautiful ~ more than happy with our accommodations. Dominion House has a wonderful history and beautiful grounds. It is easy to picture a wedding venue at the elegant dominion House. Guthrie was one of our favorite cities on our 18 day, 12 state, road trip! Thank you to all of your staff for making possible such a memorable visit.

Sadly I have to say I was a bit disappointed with our stay. The greeting was quite pleasant and the room was beautiful. Our disappointment centered around the advertised breakfast and housekeeping. We were instructed breakfast was available from 7-9. We arrived a bit after 7 but was told they would not be cooking anything until 8 but we could help ourselves to what was already out. The cold food that was out wasn't even up to par with other hotels. Once they did begin making breakfast the offering was limited. What was provided was drenched in grease and unattractive and poor in taste (certainly not worth the wait). We experienced this same level of service on both mornings. Housekeeping did clean our room and removed the used towels but did not leave any towels in their place. In short, the cook staff needs to work on their hospitality (greeting guest, etc) selection and quality.

I’d rate this phenomenal place to stay a six ! It took a genius to renovate a former Masonic Children’s Home to a superb place of lodging and leisure ! If you and/or your group are wanting something for everyone , this is it ! It has history , building eloquence , spacious rooms , caring staff ; all at super affordable prices ! Plenty of spaces indoor and outdoor for groups of any size ! We loved it , you will too !

Absolutely wonderful! First, very reasonably priced, especially for what you get. Second, the grounds and the hotel have been so meticulously restored and improved. We stayed in the room above the grand staircase and felt like royalty! The ballroom was magnificent. We were not aware of the outdoor water garden and wandered into this amazing space with a waterfall, pond and flowers.Lastly, I also loved the history of the building as a former children’s home run by the Masons. We were traveling and from Massachusetts, but I am still recommending this place as a really special wedding venue. What a pleasant and hidden gem!

I stayed here for one night after attending the Victorian Christmas walk. The building is so beautiful, especially with the Christmas lights. The staff was lovely and helpful. I stayed in a Grand King overlooking the back countryside. It was nice and quiet and peaceful. I really enjoyed the claw foot tub, large shower, lavender toiletries and the very comfortable bed. The blackout curtains were really nice as well. The breakfast was delicious And I really loved the chandeliers and other lighting fixtures. The only negative was the floors in the bedroom and bathroom were visibly dirty and really needed to be mopped and the box spring cover was badly stained in one area. Otherwise everything was perfect.

Better room than at 5 star resorts. Furnishings were beautiful. We had a grand king room with super large bathroom. Bathroom had amazing claw tub and walk in shower. Bed was very comfortable and breakfast was amazing. Three large chandeliers in our bedroom. Bedroom was large beautifully furnished.

The Frustrating: Holiday Inn style continental breakfast. NOT the breakfast pictured on their website or mentioned in reviews. We were given scrambled eggs and 2 jimmy dean sausage patties, not "a team of chefs' breakfast". EVERYTHING else is sitting out on the counter. No fresh fruit unless you consider a basket of apples and oranges. Fix the waffles yourself (but the mix doesn't cook right). Toast your own bagel (but the toaster doesn't work right). Drinks are just plastic bottles sitting in a mini fridge. Coffee is just from a machine. Creamer (sitting in the fridge) poured out in chunks. Really disappointing for a romantic getaway! The Good: The rooms - beautiful. The bathrooms - phenomenal. The grounds - nice. If we hadn't been misled with false advertising, this place would be 4 stars easy. The Not So Good: Our room showed signs of water damage. Paint cracking and chipping all along the wall. Panel above the window sagging. The grounds lacked attention to detail. The plastic domes and fire table outside were filthy. The roof has extension cords hanging down off of it. The garden area fish pond needed filled up. Little things that would make the property pop. The receptionists were nice, but I wouldn't classify either as personable. Asked for a nice restaurant recommendation since their restaurant is no longer open (again website lists W-Su) and was handed a very generic list of everything in town. The building is historic, but they put no effort in highlighting the history or stories that make the hotel unique in the first place. What about offering a tour? What about a library that has photos or stories? There are two short journal entries in the binder in the room and maybe 6-7 photos in the dining area, but you have to search for them to find them.

We when we arrived we were taken back by the odor ( old and unpleasant smell) the front lady was very pleasant. The room smelled much better, nice room (on the small side.) The front desk is not manned constantly and front doors are open until 11pm. We were uncomfortable, as anyone could enter the building until 11 pm when the front desk attendant leaves. We left shortly after check in as we were feeling very unsafe knowing front attendant had left and knowing front door was open to anyone.

I love the history of this place! We got a fireplace room on the first floor. It was huge and so was the bathroom which had a big old claw foot tub as well as a shower. This place is a little funky (it has a phonograph player, for example, and an old-fashioned shaped refrigerator). The breakfast was amazing. We were asked how we wanted out eggs and choice of meat and I got the breakfast burrito which was excellent. There also juices, good coffee, fresh berries, yogurts, muffins, waffles.... Wow! We enjoyed the ambiance. A perfect spot to stop on our trip.
