The Mash Tun

Although we didn't stay overnight, we dined there and had a really excellent meal. The food was freshly cooked, most appetising and served by outstanding staff. We often eat here when in Aberlour and can honestly say that the standard of service and the quality of the dishes is always excellent.

We wanted a short weekend break and had been to Aberlour before. We had seen the Mash Tun and wanted to give it a try. Parking was easy and location easy to to get to. The evening meal was great and the restaurant warm and cosy with the staff friendly. The bedroom was well decorated, however the temperature that day was low and when we checked into the room is was cold as the heating had not been put on. It came on about 10 mins after we got into the room and took about an hour to warm up so we sat with out coats on over a coffee. The check in time was known to us and to the hotel so why could the heating not have been put on earlier? First impressions are so important. The coffee making tray was behind a set of curtains so you had to open them in the morning to use the tea and coffee making facilities with a window looking out the street outside. Finally, the bathroom was new and nicely decorated, however the shower unit had very little pressure, so the flow was very weak. No wifi in the room and the TV system came on mysteriously at 2.30 a.m for no reason? All these things are small, but added together were disappointing.

A gem of a place. A lovely quaint hotel. Excellent service and food. From check in right through to departure, the staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble and the food was excellent. Everything was spotless. A vast assortment of spirits, whisky and wine. We booked dinner bed and breakfast which was a great price. Would highly recommend this hotel. X

Recently drove the NE250 and NC500 NW section with a couple of fellow car enthusiasts. Booked The Mash Tun as it had private off road parking and was only fifty odd miles to Inverness which linked us to our chosen north west route Tain, Lairg, Tongue and on to Lochinver for an over night stay. On arrival at The Mash Tun we were given our allocated car park spaces and offered use of the hose to wash the cars down, then shown the sauna and comfortable heated cigar bothy. Has been a good few years since I was last here, now under new ownership. The reception area is new with well stocked walk in cigar humidor and whisky shop, fully refurbished ground floor facilities including a new four bedroom Lodge which we shall definitely book next time. Our rooms have also been recently refurbished and tastefully decorated, new en suite, new beds, bedding linen and towels. Dinner was fantastic in the restaurant, boosted by an imaginative wine list, will write seperate review, definitely pre-book your meals. We sat after dinner having drinks and cigars, brought out the road map and rerouted our return journey to stay here again before heading South through Braemar, Blairgowrie to Perth avoiding tedious A9. Visited with Buchan walking club, had a pint from the Cairngorm brewery which was enjoyable, good quaint bar and friendly staff. The location is in an ideal place in Aberlour, easy enough to find for visitors. Perfect for whisky lovers alike.

Used to eat here years ago, and I always enjoyed it. The lentil and vegetable soup was excellent. Unfortunately, the seafood and gnocchi dish did not have fresh seafood. There was one small prawn and tiny fragments of fish, none of which were fresh. I should have returned it, but foolishly ate it. I had a sore tummy for the rest of the day. For a £30 lunch, I would expect much better. The service was average.
