Coundon Lodge Coventry

This is not really a hotel. I booked a single room without an en-suite, and the bathroom is down the corridor. It used to be a retirement home, and now it feels like a sort of retreat venue. There is no bar or restaurant as such, and breakfast is continental style but very well stocked with huge variety and quality options (gut bacteria yoghurt drinks, fruit, various breads and cereals etc - I was surprised by the range). There are kitchen facilities, and you put your cutlery and crockery in the dishwasher yourself. I found the host to be friendly and I really enjoyed my stay. The location and views are lovely, and the house is quirky, peaceful and I liked it a lot. You have to get into the right mindset. It is not a hotel, it is well priced,everything is there for you with a little effort. When I think about what I received for £50 or so it's remarkable. Great value and I will return.

Lovely surroundings, house has great character. Host very accommodating. Great location. Friendly welcome. Ample parking. Rooms comfortable. Host happy to give recommendations. Good selection of breakfast items. Good value for money.

Me and my sister needed a cheap place to stay for the night in Coventry and saw the reviews on Coundon Lodge were very promising. We booked a room with an on suite for £60 a night. Upon arrival, the house was beautiful and the scenery even more so. Once inside the property, the host was on a phone call which she seemed to be annoyed was interrupted. She started leading us to the wrong room before asking who we were, assuming we were different guests. Once she had looked through her bookings, she managed to take us to our right room - Number 1. As soon as we entered the room, there was an instant musty smell that you could not ignore. The host was certainly tentative however was rushing around the room, picking up empty coffee containers, flushing the toilet and turning radiators on which I would of assumed would have been done before our arrival. Bearing in mind, the room should have been ready at 4pm and we had arrived at 6pm. She did mention that she did not clean the room herself and she was checking that her staff had done an adequate job. The host then questioned why we did not let her know that we were on our way, which confused both me and my sister why this would have been relevant. Once the host eventually left the room, we had a look around, there was cobwebs on the light fixtures, on the walls, the windows. We had tried to mask the musty smell with room spray, perfume and even made cups of coffee in the hope that this would mask the smell however it did not. The bathroom was tasteful and clean however. We turned the TV on and the only channels available were either BBC News or adult messaging forums. We then had a look around the rest of the house were there was wallpaper falling off of the walls, holes in the carpets, dusty surfaces, left over food left on the kitchen counter. We ended up spending only a few hours at this property before leaving as the smell in the room was unbearable. We could not figure out where it was coming from but our best guess was that it was the walls which, after reading a review of a gentleman who stayed in room Number 1, I think we were correct. He mentioned that the roof was leaking and this was a common occurrence according to the host. So essentially, the smell was damp from the roof/walls... Unfortunately, our stay was not pleasant and I cannot recommend Coundon Lodge as I would wish to. There is a lot of work still to be done on this property and until then, we won't be returning.

Whatva beautiful property in a stunning location. This is a grade 2 listed building which the owners are refurbishing. The room I stayed in was tastefully done and comfortable. The outside space was also well thought out with tables/chairs out to sit and relax on taking in the sunshine and stunning views. Somewhere I will definitely return to. I was so taken I did a live stream to home and forgot to take photos!

Lovely BnB, had everything we needed and the location was great for getting to both the arena and the centre. Host was great, very helpful and the scenery is beautiful. Great value for money, would recommend for anyone looking for somewhere to stay after a concert.

Our first time visiting Coventry, went with my partner and our 2dogs and puppy, We stayed for 2Nights (Sherry the owner) was lovely... The room could of been a bit bigger you can here people walking upstairs if you are a light sleeper But much better sleep the 2nd night and with it being dog friendly it's reasonable and the Location you have got the lovely scenery and also for dog walkers there is.. Coundon Wedge it's peaceful walking and is just a couple of Miles from the lodge.. There is also a pub just up the road.. and Coventry town centre is about 15minutes in a car, There is also a bus stop just up the road... Also Bolt taxi witch come quickly... Had a lovely Break very Clean room and bedding, Shower was powerful also, And inside it was very History based The weather was lovely and sunny, rained in the morning but brightened up in the afternoon... Lovely place if you want something different and scenery 😊
