Thank you to the staff of Opal Inn who made our unexpected 7 night stay as good as possible. All the staff were friendly and helpful, and observed all the current Covid protocols. Meals were more than adequate and delivered promptly. Yes, the motel is a little dated but facilities are clean and more than adequate for the price.

Excellent place to stay while you travel to outback. Unless you really want to experience the bit expensive underground rooms this is a good place to stay. Rooms are very spacious and have plenty of facilities including microwave. Laundry facilities needs upgrade and payment processing needs to looked in to as hotel could not process payment which I booked through booking.com. Morning breakfast (serial, milk, juice, tea and coffee) included.

Das Zimmer schien neu renoviert mit Kücheneinrichtungen, geräumige Dusche, Bett war komfortabel, kleine Lounge und Platz 2 Sitze Esstisch. Die Aussicht vom Zimmer überblickte die rote Landschaft einzigartig bis Coober Pedy. Der Pool war eine gute Größe und die Landschaft rund um den Poolbereich bietet einen tropischen Gefühl unter dem Wüstenland. Es gab eine Pizzabar und Sie konnten Getränke abnehmen, ich habe keine Anlage so unfähig zu kommentieren Lebensmittelqualität verwendet. Es gab eine große Lagerküche. Lage war etwas aus der Stadt, so dass Sie ein Fahrzeug benötigen, um zum Hauptteil von Coober Pedy zu reisen.

Das Hotel hat eigentlich einen guten Ruf und wirbt noch mit vier Sternen, aber was wir vor Ort erhalten, ist mehr als bescheiden. Wir sind uns bewusst, dass wir in der Wüste unterwegs sind, und dass Coober Pedy damit auch eine Ausnahmestellung einnimmt. Das (überirdische) Zimmer ist ordentlich, zwar etwas in die Jahre gekommen, aber mehrheitlich intakt. Klimaanlage, Fernseher und WLan sind in Ordnung. Aber die übrige Infrastruktur der Anlage ist absolut desolat: Das Restaurant ist unangekündigt komplett geschlossen, die Bar nur teilweise in Betrieb, die Reception zeitweise auch tagsüber einfach unbesetzt und geschlossen, der Pool (bei 37° Aussentemperatur) «out of Service», und Housekeeping gibt’s ganz einfach überhaupt nicht. Als wir danach fragen (Reinigungsarbeiten? frischen Kaffee? frische Frottewäsche? Betten machen?), erhalten wir schlicht zur Antwort, dass wir das nur gegen einen Aufpreis bestellen könnten. Das ist uns wirklich noch nie im Leben passiert, und wir sind seit Jahrzehnten in den verschiedensten Hotels auf der ganzen Welt unterwegs. Und das ist hier nicht etwa eine billige Absteige: Sie bieten sich als «Best Hotel in Town» an und verlangen 260 AU$ pro Nacht. Das ist zwar nicht exorbitant, aber angesichts der gebotenen Leistung schlicht unanständig. Wenigstens kostet das Parkieren nicht auch noch extra…

Es ist sehr warm, aber das Zimmer ist sehr komfortabel und es gibt keine Klimaanlage. Ich danke dem Personal für die Freundlichkeit. Es scheint nicht viel Restaurants in der Stadt zu geben, aber es gibt Platten und Essgeräte in dem Zimmer, die Sie in einem Supermarkt kaufen oder verkaufen können. Das australische ”Vegetarische” Frühstück, das Sie versuchen können, ist auch eine gute Erfahrung. Es gibt oft niemand auf der Rezeption, vielleicht weil es nicht im Herbst ist, aber ich denke, es ist kein Problem, wenn Sie gut vorab kommunizieren.

On the way to we stayed in the donga like accommodation. It was clean with decent air conditioning but oh wow the views from this place are amazing. Decided to book the underground accommodation on the home leg we just loved it. A great experience. The host were friendly and interesting dug the place out themselves. The breakfast supplied was all we wanted. My only gripe is there was not enough cutlery which did not bother us as we had our own. Mike did mention people knock stuff off, but you should check prior to guest arriving. Will certainly stay here again. a little out of town but sure worth the little drive.

Edward is a fantastic host, very courteous and knowledgeable about the town. The accommodation is away from the Main Street, but we preferred this. We popped out for dinner and was only a 2 min drive to the eating places. Being underground was lovely and cool, refreshing after a long drive. Laundry facilities and cold drinks to purchase within the room are very convenient. The inside lounge area is communal but no one else was in room 5 (we had room 4) so we had it to ourselves. There is an assortment of beverages stocked in the lounge room, available for guests to purchase. There is an outdoor eating area, attached to a full kitchen, with a clothes washer and dryer. A full size fridge is allocated for each room, so easy to self-cater if you want to. There is an IGA supermarket in town. The bedrooms are nice, tidy and spacious. Bathroom is fresh, clean and lovely hot water. Room 4 has a QB and 2 singles. Our dog was happy with the yard space in the front, and lots of inside room for relaxing. Highly recommend for anyone with or without a pet, and will 100% be back when next passing through.
