Arrived to find the Reception area being completely renovated -- fair enough, but there was no signage to indicate where to find the temporary reception, which was in a makeshift corner of a conference room and neither clean nor inviting. Very young, rumpled staff were friendly but completely inexperienced and unprofessional. No elevator to get our heavy bags to our room, and no reason why. Was told by Sarah (?) that the included continental breakfast would feature 'pastries, yogurt and fruit'; the next morning, we were directed instead to a platter of pre-wrapped slices of banana bread in a basement lounge area. That was 'breakfast'. We said this was unacceptable and the young chap on reception agreed, but had absolutely no apology nor insight as to why this was the case. Despite a spacious, clean and well appointed bedroom, the entire experience was rather a shock and certainly a disappointment. The Interlaken has been a feature of the Lakeville landscape for decades, and I expected far more than this.

Wir haben in dem Weißen Herz vorher geblieben und haben immer die Atmosphäre, Zimmer und Essen geliebt. Aber diese Zeit war so enttäuschend. Wir haben in Zimmer 32 geblieben, was eine niedrigere Ebene King Bett Suite in der separaten Wohnung war. Das Zimmer selbst war wunderschön. Aber ich würde nie wieder hier bleiben. Von Anfang an am Abend und dann wieder zum ersten Mal am Morgen, jeder Einzelschritt im oberen Zimmer könnte man hören, als wäre es eine Elefantenflotte. Wir haben endlich den Front Desk angerufen, der versuchte zu helfen, und als die oberen Gäste nicht auf ihr Telefon antworteten, kam das Personal zu ihrer Tür zu klopfen. Sie hatten Kinder, die ständig in Bewegung sein müssen, obwohl die Gäste es verweigerten. Sie haben vielleicht nicht eingesehen, dass in einer solchen alten Baustelle jeder Schritt nach unten gehört werden kann, und selbst wenn gesagt wurde, halten sie es nicht für angemessen, ihre Kinder zu versuchen und zu beschränken. Während die Hotelpersonal ihre Entschuldigungen zum Ausdruck brachte (am Abend und wieder, als ich es bei der Checkout erwähnte), wurde nichts getan. Da das Gastverhalten nicht unter der Kontrolle des Managements liegt, sollten diese oberen Stockräume nicht junge Kinder zulassen (wenn nicht eine Art Soundproofing hinzugefügt wird). Diese Zimmer sind nicht teuer, und für einen besonderen Abend weg waren wir sehr enttäuscht. Update: Mgmt erkannte unsere suboptimale Erfahrung und erhielt uns einen Teil unseres Aufenthalts zurück, was die geeignete Antwort für eine Inn ihrer Qualität war.

We enjoyed our one-night stay at the Inn at Pine Plains. The room (Smithfield) was super clean and comfortable, with a great mattress, soft rugs on the floor, a large bathroom with a walk-in shower, a desk and chair, and an armchair. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful and the coffee was excellent! We enjoyed chatting with Nicole at breakfast and with Patti upon arrival. Highly recommended.
