Booked a table for 17:30 for the Sunday roasts, confirmed one would be vegan and told this would be a cauliflower steak which was fine. Then was told she couldn’t guarantee they would have any roasts left by 17:30. Called again to see if we could go at 16:00 and was told by someone else there were plenty of roasts left but he’d not heard of one being vegan. His colleague then informed him it would be the cauliflower steak. Attended at 16:00 and ordered two roasts, one vegan which was again reiterated to me would be the cauliflower steak in place of any meat. Asked for a drink without ice; drink was served with ice. Brought out a tray of bread and butter; no vegan butter. My vegan steak came out and was just the actual cauliflower steak main dinner from the menu; no roast potatoes at all, just tiny Charlotte potatoes, no vegan gravy, and a cheesy dish to share… This was not a vegan roast with a cauliflower steak in place of meat, it was just their cauliflower steak main dinner. Tried ordering the strawberries with black pepper and bourbon that I’d seen on their menu earlier that morning; was told none of the staff had heard of it. Even partners actual roast was tiny with three roast potatoes. I won’t be going back.

Nach langer Zeit endlich wieder in Amberley Castle! Wunderbare Lage im Arun-Tal zwischen den Hügeln der South-Downs, direkt am Rand den netten Orts Amberley. Wir sind von Arundel in ca. 2,5 Stunden nach Amberley gewandert (schöne Tour mit herrlichen Ausblicken) und standen dann am verschlossenen Hinterausgang des Schlosses. Nach einem Anruf an der Rezeption würde und die Tür in der Burgmauer aufgeschlossen und wir wurden herzlich begrüßt. Freundliche Mitarbeiter, dazu ein Upgrade... was will man mehr? Wir hatten ein Arrangement + Cream-Tea gebucht, kein Billigangebot aber jeden Penny wert! Hervorragendes Dinner im hauseigenen Restaurant, sehr gute Weinauswahl zu fairen Preisen. Morgens dann noch ein luxuriöses Frühstück a la Carte. Die ganze Anlage strahlt eine unglaubliche Atmosphäre aus: die Ruhe, die komfortablen Zimmer, die herumfliegenden Tauben, die gepflegten Gärten, die alten Gebäude, die Hecken... alles zusammen ein einmaliges Erlebnis!
