We stayed here for five nights with a Great Rail Journeys group trip to the Isle of Man. We upgraded to a Business Club Promenade room in our initial booking. Our room was spacious and the main room area was well laid out with a nice seating area in the bay window overlooking the promenade and sea. There was good storage plus a kettle, nespresso machine, fridge and a selection of hot drinks, still and sparkling water (in glass bottles) and biscuits, which were replenished daily. The fridge wasn’t working to start with but we reported it and it was sorted out. Dressing gowns and slippers were provided. There was a safe, iron and ironing board. The lighting was very good! The bed was ok once you got used to the thick memory foam only mattress and soft pillows - we found a spare pillow in the wardrobe which helped my husband. Being memory foam, the mattress was quite warm to sleep on. The bathroom was enormous with a separate bath, large walk-in shower (which was very good indeed) and twin sinks. It did look a bit tired, especially compared with the main part of the room. Two bathroom ******* : the single non-heated towel rail was too small for the towels so you had no choice but to put them over the bath to dry, which then meant they inevitably got changed - not good. Also the provided toiletries were in tiny single use plastic bottles which really isn’t acceptable now. Two room *******: the room was very hot and stuffy most of the time we were there, so we had to have the windows open and fan on all night. The windows opened too little to have much cooling effect because the top parts didn’t open and the bottoms were of course on limiters. The windows being open meant that the room was very noisy, as the promenade road seems to be one of the main roads in Douglas. But even on the last night, with windows shut due to a storm, it turned out still to be noisy. Our holiday was half board so we ate breakfast and dinner at the hotel every day. Breakfasts were very good with a decent range of options, cold as a buffet and hot plus hot drinks as waited service. Apparently the scrambled eggs were not good at all, but the poached were nice and the smashed avocado on toast with egg was excellent! Dinners were good and well varied over our five day trip, but they weren’t exceptional. The hotel is only a very short walk from the sea terminal, bus station and main shopping street. There is a bus stop about a minute’s walk away which takes you to the Manx Electric Railway station in a few minutes; the steam railway station is about 10 minutes’ walk away. Would I stay here again? Yes, but I would ask for a room at the back!

Die Isle of Man ist ein tolles Reiseziel und das Empress Hotel ein super Ausgangspunkt! Tolle Lage und guter Ausblick. Trotz der Strasse davor war's ruhig. Freundliches Personal und gute Speisen in der tollen PianoBar. Ich mochte auch den Bar-Pianisten. Der hat toll gespielt! Das Frühstück ist auch gut! Es gibt nur einen kleinen Aufzug und die Treppen sind sehr eng.

Schönes Hotel. Der Service war außergewöhnlich, ich kann das Personal nicht loben. Das Zimmer war freundlich und hatte schöne Aussichten auf die Seefront. Das Frühstück war lecker und es gab eine gute Wahl (keine Vegetation, aber es war immer noch möglich, nur die nicht-fleisch-Optionen wie Eier und Pilze zu bestellen). Ich würde dieses Hotel definitiv empfehlen.

Wow, what can I say! We managed to book the Hotel Halvard last minute after being really disappointed with the state of one of the large neighbouring hotels that we had originally booked for a four night stay. On arriving at Hotel Halvard, we were greeted by a very warm welcome from Lucas, who made us feel so at ease after a rather stressful arrival to the island. As the booking was so last minute we only booked for the one night. As the hotel was so amazing, the following morning, we spoke to Pete on reception, who went above and beyond to arrange another room for us due to the room we were in being fully booked. Pete gave us a fantastic price deal on the room, which included breakfast, and we were really, really lucky that they had availability. The rooms are really out of this world! Such high quality, large, spacious rooms which are immaculately cleaned throughout. Stunning views overlooking the promenade. Complimentary soft drinks and snacks which are restocked daily. It has a fantastic little restaurant that serves a vast range of lovely breakfast items, including continental and cooked breakfasts. The restaurant is also open to the public for delicious evening meals but would highly recommend booking in advance. The hotel is perfectly located along the prom, which is very central to all amenities. We give the hotel a 10/10. It's definitely one of the best on the island, if not the best, but what makes it more special is the staff. Each and every one of them were so friendly and helpful, we felt like we'd known them forever. Nothing was too much trouble and they go out of their way to make sure your stay is the best possible. Definitely give them a call when booking as they offer much better deals than what is available online. Back again for our yearly stay in the At Caledonia! Stayed for fourteen nights bed and breakfast. Greeted warmly on arrival and felt like we hadn't been away. Got checked in and received the key to our usual room, No 7 (a family sea view). Room was clean and tidy, complete with plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits. Toiletries had also been left out in bathroom for use if required. Bed lien and towels were spotless, as was the table linen at breakfast. Breakfast was delicious! A selection of cereals, yoghurts, apple/orange juice and condiments are available at a self-service station to the rear of the dining room. The cooked breakfast was a good size and could be customized to suit individual needs. The standard Full English comprised of: two sausages, piece of bacon, fried egg, beans, hash brown and half a cooked tomato. Scrambled, boiled and poached eggs also available. Staff as always helpful and friendly. Always willing to help where needed and accommodate guests needs. At Caledonia is dog friendly and our dog had the best stay! Dogs are not allowed in dining room but not an issue. The location of the hotel is perfect! Just a short 10-15 minutes walk from the Manx Electric Railway terminus and just 2 minutes from a bus and horse tram stop. Close to local pubs and eatery's including 'The Queens Pub' and 'Majestic Chinese Restaurant'.

Schönes Hotel, ideal für das Stadtzentrum, Villa Marina, Gaiety Theatre, Pferdezug und die elektrische Eisenbahn. Wir blieben in einem 4-stützigen Zimmer mit Blick auf Broadway mit teilweisem Blick auf das Meer und konnten die kommenden & Gehspuren im Ferry Port sehen. Es war geräumig und hatte alles, was wir brauchen. Wäschereien, Haartrockner, Safe, Eisen- und Eisenbahnbord, Tee, Kaffee, warme Schokolade, Wasser und ein Kühlschrank sowie ein Ladehafen und mehr elektrische Socken, als ich jemals zuvor gesehen habe. Das Frühstück war ein schönes gekochtes Buffet, zusammen mit kontinentalen, Getreide, Saft, Joghurt, Obst. Wir hatten nur 1 Abendessen, aber es war schön und der Koch wechselte das Reis für Kartoffeln & Vege für mich. Sehr schöne Desserts. Die Mitarbeiter waren alle zufrieden, aber wir mögen vor allem die Hausmeisterin und tauschten jeden Tag ein paar Worte mit ihr auf unserem Weg zum oder vom Frühstück. Wenn wir wieder zum IOM reisen würden, würden wir definitiv am Mannin ..... nur hoffen, dass das Wetter besser ist :)
