The hotel in general was alright. Nothing too special or fancy. There was a good restaurant at the base called Bin 4. What makes this hotel not great is that from the time that we were there (3 nights), 4 car windows were smashed and broken into including our own car. There was nothing in the vehicle. It seemed just to happen for the purpose of breaking something. The worst part is the day if we had to do a 7 hour drive home taking the ferry and the Coquihalla. The hotel says there is 24/7 security and people at the hotel which just doesn’t make sense for so many vehicles being broken into. Of course the hotel isn’t ‘responsible’. May not be the place you want to stay and certainly don’t leave anything in your car.
Stayed at Hotel zed Victoria while my spouse was getting cancer treatment. I would Definately stay again in the winter but the lack of air conditioning is a complete deal breaker. We were shocked to arrive to a darkened room with fans. Granted, they don’t claim to have AC but we never thought to check since some of the oldest and cheapest hotels in Victoria have AC. Luckily we had a king room which has a balcony, I couldn’t even imagine being in one of the other rooms that only has a tiny window that opens. It was nice when we booked under the medical rate that they ensured my husband could do stairs (no elevator) and they’re one of the few hotels that still provide a medical rate discount for cancer patients even during the peak season. I see some reviews said the rooms were dingy but I think the bright colors and humorous retro decor actually liven up what would otherwise be a standard budget hotel. There were a lot of very noisy young people as we were next to some sort of a sports team and the kids were running and yelling. Additionally, there’s construction and due to the lack of AC, you hear a lot of road noise from open windows. Didn’t use the pool, but noticed it was jam packed with kids for those that care about that. The grass common area didn’t look like somewhere I’d want to be after dark and I wonder how many people let their dogs pee there. The biggest pro was Definately the bed. I have now stayed at multiple hotels in this price range and they by far have the most comfortable beds and pillows. In fact, they are what you would expect from a delta or Marriott type hotel. For this reason, I would Definately stay again in the winter but for summer stays, the lack of AC and lack of airflow is a dealbreaker. Other bonuses include walking distance to Denny’s, Starbucks and the mall. Also walking distance to the galloping goose trail and a water taxi dock. They Definately charge more than I would expect to pay for a hotel of this type but I do find it a fair price witb ckmparable hotels
A very cozy place where you feel like at home, the friendly staffs is a great catch, the 2 girls who started at 5 am preparing your breakfast always carry a sweet smile that makes you day with great start, Gloria and Darren always take the extra mile to make suggestions for places to visit and dine caring to your preferences, the man in charge, Sam, really impressed me how far they go to make a conventional hotel business with great concern to being Green, the team there makes it different from the others and I would recommend anyone who is visiting Victoria to book yourself couple of nights there
This hotel looks much better online than in person. A 3 dressed up to look like a 7. Pros Low priced for Victoria Friendly staff Nice Shower Convenient cafe on site Cons A little run down Guests are permitted to run wild Very noisy at night (hallways and parking lot party going on) A/C didn’t work very well Uncomfortable and cheap feeling bed Pool was not operational Tight parking spots Not conveniently located to the heart of Victoria and the good amenities that Victoria has to offer. I’d be happy to rate it a 3 out of 5 if the building was fixed up a little more with comfier rooms and security cracking down on late night noise.
I'll start with the good..... free parking, hot water, power shower, daily fresh towels & coffee, iron & ironing board, good staff, microwave, kettle, Keurig, fridge. Our room was OK. However, there is no elevator. The bed creaked every time you moved, the springs were noisy & when one rolled over, the other followed suit, you both rolled together it needs a new mattress & base. The pillows were lumpy and had no substance to them even when you used two. The curtains were threadbare & paint peeling off the walls. No safe in the room. Storage & hangers are minimal. Black grout in between the tiles on the floor (needs a scrub with some grout cleaner). This doesn’t mean it wasn't cleaned as there was no hair in the sink or bath from previous occupants that we saw room was cleaned daily with fresh towels. The sink was not in the bathroom but in the bedroom. Pool & sauna.....pool was warm, but it needs a clean - there were live bugs in the pool we were in it approximately 10 minutes before we got out as we were grosses out, you could not see the bottom it was cloudy. The saunas are separate, one male & one female with change room facilities we didn't use them we also didn't use the fitness room. Access to the pool/sauna/fitness room, you have to go outside, walk the path , and then re-enter the building. The on-site dining....The Loft great staff with good pub food salt n pepper pork bites were very the kitchen staff worked very hard. Live music most nights but not disturbed by it. The Coachman, we had 1 breakfast there, and it wasn't great. Apparently, the chef was Grumpy that day .... maybe that's why it wasn't great? Waitress was great. All in all staff, were great, shower was powerful & hot, bed was not comfy we won't stay here again when we visit next.
