Das Hotel ist sehr schön, sauber, mit großem Bett, zwei Einzelbetten, geeignet für vier Personen, Parkplatz, Garten, Swimmingpool vor dem Hotel. Ein kleiner Partner für selbstfahrende Reisen. Der jüngere Bruder an der Rezeption spricht chinesische Gastfreundschaft. Sehr zufrieden, gefällt!

Große Wohnung. Nahe der Küste, obwohl es wünschte, es war richtig da. Bitte beachten Sie, dass es nur 1 Badezimmer, obwohl in der 2-Zimmer-Wohnung. Gute Parkplätze jedoch.

From this Ken, some sweet reflections 23/8/23: It's not Surfers Paradise (& thanks for that) but here at the front wide window of the best cabin at Marengo, on a sharp-breezed but sunny August morning, there's something black (& maybe deadly)slowly creeping against the rough white waves betwixt a scruffy beach & those ragged rocks covered in indolent seals. Often the rude question rises: What do those seals do for a living? The trevally rarely leap up to be devoured! But I did see a real fisherman take two with a double-hooked light line (I wonder what they taste like?) Mostly I wonder, rather than wander, in this last blast of winter, although we are blessed by 3 days of fine sunshine, when shaded from the shade & dressed according to the time of day. That endlessly engaging distraction of light, movement, & always the underlying symphony of surf moves me away from urban life & that endless list of what ”must” be done ASAP. On this one of many journeys to Marengo Family Caravan Park, perhaps 3 hours from Brunswick if you can't help pausing at the wonderful opp shop in Anglesea, best achieved along the Great Ocean Road, by a seriously skilled driver, whose passengers are always gazing left, just in case a wonderful whale is glimpsed, we feel that slight anxiety about unlikely flat tires. The mood completely converts to joyful anticipation as we pass through the ”big smoke” of Apollo Bay - urban concerns fade & the gently rural context of ocean & forest completely converts hard times to a soft escape. On other visits to this few days of new life we have generally travelled to someplace or other & clear advice is always available from the office. This time we chose wisely to firmly alter our existence & simply soaked into an always interesting landscape. Oh, & the black & beautiful curiosity turns out to have two long ”fins” which are the paddling arms of a single surfer, in full wet suit, confidently moving out to where that magic ride can be sought. He went out of sight, around the point, to larger forces, but was seen later returning to his car, board in hand, & slightly surprised by my gestures of congratulation. The journey to Marengo is endless delights, but the happy holiday, renews energy, subdues concern, & provides a better path ahead.

Gute Lage, sehr nah am Zentrum. Der Balkon kann das Meer sehen und das Gästezimmer ist nachts etwas kühler. Andere sind sehr gut, empfehlen zu bleiben.

Ein schönes kleines B&B in der Nähe der Stadt. Gerald traf mich bei der Ankunft und war voller interessanter Fakten über die Stadt und Orte zu essen. Das Zimmer, das ich hatte, war schön - ein Gartenzimmer mit einer Terrasse aus dem Rücken, gut ausgestattet mit einem Kühlschrank und Tee- und Kaffeemaschine. Das Frühstück ist kontinental und Selbstbedienung. Eine große Auswahl an Getreide, Toast, Joghurt und Obst verfügbar. Ein guter Ort, um auf der Great Ocean Road zu stoppen.

Apollo Bay ist die längste Stadt, die auf unserer Reise auf der Autobahn des Meeres verbleibt. Dieses kleine Holzhaus hat unsere Familie fünfmal. Zwei Erwachsene und drei Kinder haben drei Nächte gelebt. Neben der schönen Landschaft in der Nähe, vor allem bieten wir hier Fahrräder, kleine Boote, Fischer, Golfballen usw... Sie können in den nahe gelegenen Feldplatz gehen, am Meer spielen, und wir spielen jeden Tag sehr glücklich! Der Gastgeber Amanda und ein Freund von ihr kümmern sich um diese Holzhäuser. Die Menschen sind sehr gut und können Gästen viel Hilfe bieten. Es ist eine sehr interessante Erfahrung für uns, in der Stadt zu leben, mit dem Holz verbrennen!

Danke an Alison und Chris für angenehmen Aufenthalt und hilfreiche Tipps. Das Einchecken war schon sehr sympathisch, die Lage super - ruhig und trotzdem alles gut zu Fuß erreichbar. Zahlreiche Ausflugsziele auch in der Nähe, ob für Familien oder Pärchen, Alt oder Jung, für jeden ist etwas dabei. Das Appartement ist sehr sauber, hell und gut ausgestattet. Absolut empfehlenswert auch für längeren Aufenthalt!

Likes: * Movie room with large TV, lots of DVD choices and access to streaming sites * Kitchen has ovens + is well organised + labels for cubbies and items in fridge * Lounge / chill out room available * We got a free upgrade which we loved (thank you!!) * Shop behind reception has all prices - even a laminated sheet in the room to look at * Bathrooms are clean and tidy * Free wifi throughout * Super resourceful and sustainable property with cost and energy saving initiatives * Towels are free and provided in the room at check in Dislikes: * Check in isn’t until 5pm Improvements: * Showers had a leak which meant the water sprayed everywhere but we told the guy at reception and he called maintenance so hopefully fixed soon as this hostel is super sustainable and water waste is a no no * Should be signs so can’t take hot food in the cinema room for the sake of others + furniture

I stayed here for a total of 3 nights on my GOR adventure. The accommodation is fairly basic but you get what you pay for and I thought it was reasonably good value. The rectangular room was not very large but I had no intention of spending more time than I needed to in the room. The double bed was clean and comfy although it barely fit across the width of the room. I had to squeeze between it and the heater to get to the other side where there was a small side table with drawers and a window over looking the street and the rear of the old post office. There was a small sink with taps, good for brushing teeth, a rack for hanging clothes and low stand to set a suitcase on. Across the hallway there were male and female toilets and separate male and female bathrooms. The bathrooms even had a bath (well, the male bathroom, anyway, I didn't go into the female bathroom but I assume it was the same) as well as a shower. No sink though, hence the teeth brushing in the sink in the bedroom. At the end of the hall, towards the internal stairs, there was a unisex bathroom (and toilet, I think). I only gave it a glance as I used the facilities across the hall from my room. Residential guests accessed the rooms via a steel grate staircase at the back (due to covid protocols). The staff were friendly and kindly filled my thermos with hot water in the mornings before I set off on the day's adventures. On my second night there I was awoken at stupid o'clock by the window rattling. I'd seen the forecast and I thought it was the wind that was shaking the window frame. It's an old pub, once the Ballarat Hotel, probably around 120 years old, or more. It was a bit annoying but I managed to get back to sleep. Approximately 40 minutes later I was awoken by the rattling again. This time I couldn't get back to sleep which was far more annoying as there was very little I could do. It was pre-dawn and I didn't want to wake any of the other guests. And the Apollo Bay Bakery wouldn't be open for quite some time yet so I couldn't even go and get a coffee. A few hours later, as I was setting off for the day's adventuring, I caught a few minutes of radio from Melbourne. Turned out there had been a couple of small earthquakes in the early hours of the morning in the vicinity of Apollo Bay. Despite what people have said, it turns out that, in fact, I could not sleep through an earthquake.

Specifically put ‘do not disturb’ sign on door and cleaners came into the room to clean regardless. When enquired about why they came in, the answer was, ‘oh the sign was on the floor, we weren’t sure so we decided to go in anyway’. They admitted that their signs being found on the floor was a common occurrence. Why not fix that? Have a sign inside the room by the window? And to think we were actually going to come back again the next time we came to Apollo Bay. Violated our privacy and the owner/manager/housekeeping has no common sense. Could have prevented this via a simple phone call to clarify if we needed any service.
