To be clear, we have never stayed at a Castle before, and I was not specifically looking for such an experience when booking. However, my husband had already made a reservation at a nice spa hotel in Tuscany, and asked me to find a place halfway between that place and Rome. I can not accentuate enough how beautiful the grounds, outside Castle views and mountain vistas are here. The owners have put a great deal of time and money to give the place charm in every corner, and made it clear what a long and painstaking process it is to turn ruins into a five star hotel, and they are trying really hard to make it happen! But it pains me to say that they are not quite there yet, despite the attentiveness of all the staff. Given the expensive price and the 5 star ratings and pictures online, I neglected to notice that there is no gym, not even a small one with a few pieces of equipment. Also despite google descriptions and listings clearly stating there is a spa, hot tub, sauna and stream room, these amenities are not available to guests but are in a private suite. At first I thought my disappointment was due to my misinterpretation, but upon returning home and looking at the listings I realize that management is being blatantly deceptive in my opinion. Moreover, of the two pools during our visit, one was not heated, and the other completely empty of water (though plans are to have one heated and to add a gym but we saw no such work going on). As a lap swimmer, I kept looking at the gorgeous pool longingly as it was open and filled with water but was ice cold. On the one rainy day we had, there really was not much to do except romance but that does not take us all day lol. We booked one of the least expensive rooms, and although it was quite large, it was not as hospitable as we would like and not a suite in what is described as an “all suite” hotel. Our room was dark with small windows too low to have views through the trees. And there was no fireplace as described in the list of amenities. The mattress and linens were super comfortable, and the room had a wonderful private deck built out over the mountain ledge as well as a modern Balinese glassed in shower. However, an old wooden window (from Bali?) was used instead of door to our toilet & bidet area, with a threshold on the floor over 6” high to step over, and the top of which one has to bend over to not hit head, even if you are only 5’4” like me! It is quite dangerous, especially after some wine. Our particular room, was the basement of an out structure not part of the castle, with an amazing suite on the upper floors (not ours), making our room feel like it was for staff. There were steep stone steps to reach our room, again a bit dangerous. The headboard on the gorgeous four poster bed, was so low, that one could not really read in bed without using every single pillow in the room, and every time I did that, the housekeepers would put the pillows back on the chairs as if what I was doing

I’m blown away… from the moment we drove through the private gates of this immaculate castle, I knew we were in for a great. Off the beaten path, 45+ minutes from the nearest major town, Castello di Vicarello is the most romantic oasis for couples to enjoy a stay like no other. The service is incredible, I wish I could name everyone personally because they each deserve recognition. In particular, we had a fantastic wine tasting experience with Astrid, maybe the most passionate sommelier we’ve ever encountered. The wine is fantastic, organic, unique and complex. The food is exquisite, especially the Florentine steak. Oh! The cocktails! Claudio is a wizard. If you are looking for a romantic getaway, a sanctuary of solitude, this is it. I’m getting emotional thinking about it. Our wedding anniversary could not have been more special. Thank you to the entire team and staff here. You won’t regret staying here!

This place is extraordinary. Where do I start, alora! From the moment I stepped on the property, I feel the hospitality from the ladies at the reception , my transport were arranged on time. I arrived around 3 pm and the restaurant has closed for lunch but they arranged special lunch for me, gluten free meals as my preference. They really do extra miles for their guests satisfaction. The food is delicious, fresh ingredients . Service is five stars , attention to details. One of the gentlemen who is from Morocco was kind enough to make masamman bread (special bread from Morocco ) , I am very touched. Fransesca is also very attentive . Thank you. The owner of the property , Mr. Carlo and Mrs. aurora Baccheschi Berti are very warm and friendly. I am lucky to have met them and their charming son , Mr. Corso Maria Bacheschi Berti. Last but not least , Uva , the mascot of Castello vicarello. I have had the best stay in this exclusive place . Memorable and I look forward to visit again very soon!

Slow mornings and cooking classes at the best spot in Italy. We absolutely loved the golden light, the endless view and the set up of a private dinner for two. Castello di Vicarello is an oasis in the heart of wild Tuscany.

What a gem of a place. A little perspective: my new husband and I spent only 24 hours here as a part of our honeymoon. We traveled all through Italy for our honeymoon, staying in some spectacular, luxurious places from Villa d'Este on Lake Como to 5-star hotels across the country, and this place surpassed them all. It's a bit off the beaten path (maybe more than a 'bit'), but we loved that 'hidden' and remote quality. We really felt like we stumbled across something special. The grounds are impeccable, really immersive. There are just a few total suites, each one unique. There are spectacular views everywhere. It's somehow simultaneously incredibly private yet there's courteous staff around every corner, attending to any need you might have. The breakfast is ridiculously good, the dinner was amazing. They went above and beyond, even making a secret pineapple cake for my husband because I mentioned to them it's his favorite! Late-night cocktails were one of many highlights - a library/bar/living room becomes a custom, cart-service bar with Claudio giving you a show while creating delicious libations. The wine tasting with Astrid was delightful - she's super knowledgable, funny, and was attentive throughout our stay. Danila was always there anytime we needed anything - more food? Done. New drink? Done. Forgot a bag or jacket in the car? Went out herself in middle of the night to get it and bring it to our room! The incredible team is led by Alessia and Alessandro - what brilliant, kind, warm people. Short of literally holding our hands, Alessia gave us a tour of the grounds, helped us settle in, and made sure we always had what we needed, even helping us plan our next visit. Hearing we were driving to Rome from there, Alessandro took into account my dietary restrictions and packed us a lovely picnic lunch to-go, on the house! Of note, we also met two of owners, Corso and Brando, brothers who also live on the grounds. While opening their 'home' to us, they themselves were helping carry our bags and stepping up to help where needed. In short - we can't wait to return. Again, we stayed at ~16 different places over 3 weeks. This is the only one we NEED to revisit. We're already planning a longer Tuscan escape for 2024, hoping to make Vicarello our home.

We love Italian boutique luxury properties. We were planning another Tuscan retreat and needed another hotel to round out a two week stay. I found this place on the internet. Google maps tried to turn me around a few times but I found it. Glad I did! This is a family run luxury retreat in a restored 12 th century castle. There are only 9 suites and a staff of more than 30. The second generation owner operators are on site and attentive to service and quality. The place compares well to similar Tuscan luxury retreats at more than twice the price. We will tell several friends to put this place in their plans.

Another oddity was this huge piece of furniture in the corner of our room, for what purpose we have no idea, but this space could be used for a comfortable sofa, but instead was used as storage. We resorted to putting the do not disturb sign on the room because we felt the level of service was overkill. Other minor amenities missing, were a magnifying mirror (I could not put on makeup during my stay), no tv and no phones. Guests have to download WhatsApp to communicate with staff. I
