Church House Inn

Underwhelming to say the least! We booked a room some time ago and although didn’t realise until we spoke to them breakfast wasn’t included as we had the ‘cheapest room’ which I found very condescending. Frodo Baggins and Sam would’ve struggle in the room. It was tiny and a tiny bathroom with a shower you could barely manoeuvre in. The piece de la resistance was the constant traffic outside our room. I didn’t get to sleep until 2:00am my wife 3:00am. Plus we couldn’t book in until 4:00pm! The pub wasn’t even open during the day where we could’ve had lunch after a 4:30 hour drive! We were told our £145 was due to a prime location! 2 miles from Salcombe and Kingsbridge and in the middle of nowhere! On a main road! I don’t like to give to negative feedback generally but I feel you need to review your rates and your customer service. And for £145 I’d expect breakfast - not to pay extra for a box room!

We were visiting the UK during Easter and sailing back to Spain from Plymouth. Our pre-night stay was to have been at Church House Inn, Kingsbridge. However, due to a multiple bereavement we had to leave UK early and drive through France to return home. I did not even think at the time to cancel the booking. When home in Spain I recieved this on my email... '...We have tried to contact you as you still have not arrived. The number you have given is not responding. Check in time has now passed when will you be arriving??? ' Clearly a very 'put-out' member of The Church House! I then 'phoned them to explain the situation in as few words as possible. Today (3/5/23) I 'phoned them to pay the outstanding money of 135 GBP, which I would have paid if we had gone to the Church House INN. Again, not one single word of condolences. Perhaps a lesson here for staff ... Never assume that people don't have bigget things to deal with. Today, a softer and perhaps condolence might have been kind. In a world where we can, if we chose be kind........!

Excellent early evening meal, friendly welcome, home cooked food served in very good portions and spotlessly clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our food and wish we lived closer to visit more often. Lots of places to sit both inside and out and the pub is full of character.

Have just made our first visit to this gorgeous pub. Hubbie had the fish 'soup' which he said was fantastic, I had the halloumi burger which was the best I've had. Oh, and the sticky toffee pudding we had after was lovely, plus sparkler for hubbie's birthday. We were allowed to bring our little dog in and she was given a blanket to sleep on. So there you go, absolutely perfect. Thank you very much to the really friendly staff!!

Situated in a good location for visiting the Area. A Warm welcome on arrival. The rooms are of a high standard, impeccably clean, nicely furnished and comfortable. We also ate here in the evening and had excellent food and service. A great find for a short break. Thank you

We were staying locally so went here for dinner one evening. The staff are very friendly and attentive to your needs. The fires are excellent keeping the Inn warm and cosy. The selection of beers and wines is very good, as is the food menu - although predominantly fish based as expected. The service and quality of food was superb and we would definitely return here when next in the area.
