Snug Harbor Marina and Hotel

I sent in my $250 rental deposit in April and never heard from Snug Harbor owners so mistakenly assumed I had a cabin for 6. When I called one week prior to arriving to reconfirm our arrival, they told me that my check arrived 1 day too late and the cabin was rented to others. They claimed to have left 2 voice mail messages, but none were ever received. They kept my deposit for 3 months; no refund was offered until I insisted that they refund my deposit immediately. I was lucky to find VIP Island Rentals and they had a darling cottage available. Stay as far away from Snug Harbor as you can.

Was at Snug Harbor 2007 & 2008, place shaby, but close to activities during Pony Penning week. In February 2009 paid in full $808, for four days during during Pony Penning week at the end of July, 2009. In April my husband died, sent certified letter asking for refund, half was refunded with letter stating that balance would be returned, which never happened. Ignored second certified letter. Web site did not state any information about refund policy. Will never stay at Snug Harbor resort again.

We were very disappointed in Snug Harbor. When we got there the owner had given away our room to someone else even though we had reservations and had prepaid. His first suggestion was that we find somewhere else to stay. Of course, everywhere was booked so he ended up asking the guests to leave that he had given our cottage to. We then made reservations for a boat rental and when he got to the dock he had given the boat to someone else. No boat was available for us so we were unable to enjoy that! The cottages were dirty and the furniture was filthy. What a disappointment! It shows that they have no interest in satisfying customers!!!

Avoid at all costs! The property is crummy and rundown, What they call villas, are tiny duplex style cabins. The full kitchen advertised is nothing more than a closet sized kitchenette. Especially beware thwe "luxury villa," rickety double beds with the cheapest linens possible. Cheap plastic mattress covers rustling wake you up anytime you move in the bed, and the bathroom is tiny with exposed plumbing. When I told the owner we were leaving after one night, I discovered she has some serious anger-management issues. Stay away, it was one unpleasant night.

I spent 5 nights at Snug Harbor, in what was advertised as a "1 Bedroom cottage", but which was neither one bedroom nor a cottage. It was actually a tiny studio motel room that shared a wall with other rooms on both sides, with plywood paneled walls and a futon with a broken frame for my son to sleep on. You could hear people in the rooms next door, and the bathroom was so small that you couldn't really have two people in there at the same time. And, for this I paid the same rates I'd paid the year before for a whole week in a large, 2-bedroom house in another location. Not what I'd envisioned for my once-a-year family vacation. But, once I kissed the money goodbye and resigned myself to the accommodations, I actually had a really nice time there. As other reviewers have mentioned, John, who runs the place, is really nice. I highly recommend renting one of his little motorized skiffs for fishing in the channel. The water is calm and you can go see the horses while catching all kinds of fish (we even caught a puffer fish). The dock there doesn't have a swimming area (you have to drive across to Assateague for that), but it's great for relaxing, fishing, crabbing. And, the view of the lighthouse and the channel is awesome. All in all, I'd give it a mixed review.

I really didn't know whether to give this one star or two but i was feeling generous so i gave it two. The lodging here leaves much to be desired. From some of the websites we saw, you would think these cottages were so lush, as they are called "villas". Do not be fooled! These are cabins. Not very nice cabins at that. If you have more then 3 people staying with you I feel sorry for you. The cabins are very small and the bathrooms are tiny! There were some sort of small bugs crawling around in ours also. Most likely because the stovetop and counter had some crumbs on them when we arrived. I would expect an accommodation to be cleaned before guests arrive? I did not feel a friendliness here as i have felt in other establishments in chincoteague. Not a very warm place. I will skip this place next time I am in chincoteague.
