Hotel Puerta Chichen

Great location for a visit to Chichen Itza, only a 15 minute walk or 5 minute taxi ride for 70 pesos. This enabled us to have breakfast at 7am and be at the ticket office for 8am. We had a 15 minute queue to buy our tickets and were able to explore for about an hour and a half before it got very busy. Nice pool area to enjoy after a hot visit to the ruins. Garden view room very quiet and modern bathroom area. Restaurant charges 180 Mexican pesos for breakfast (£9/$10) for all you can eat but hot options are not to European tastes so you may want to consider whether this is good value for money. Evening meal from the al la carte menu was good or there are a few reasonable restaurants close by if you want more choice. Only two small bottles of water provided for our two night stay and no option to top up our own bottles (which we would have preferred).

After a hot, crowded visit to Chichen Itza, what you might crave is a quiet, poolside lunch with kind, attentive wait staff. This hotel offers a buffet lunch where staff serves you the main dishes cafeteria style. There are lots of choices. You can help yourself to the salad and dessert bars. Our group dragged in hungry, hot and exhausted. We left refreshed and ready for whatever the afternoon might bring.

This is a nice place to stay overnight if you plan to go to Chichen Itza early in the morning. Pretty much right on the main road in town with a row of parking. The hotel has a restaurant and rooms upstairs on one side and mostly rooms on the other side. The restaurant is accessible from inside or outside and has excellent food and drinks. Don’t worry if the facade looks like a roadside motel. The backyard of the hotel has lush lovely expansive gardens and a pool. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff are helpful and you can arrange for a guide from the front desk- highly recommended. The official guides are multilingual.

Food was delicious Excellent customer service! Restaurant and bathrooms were clean. Back patio area was nice and relaxing. Will return and highly recommend if in the area! !

We chose this hotel for our one-night stay because of its proximity to the main entrance to Chichen Itza, and because of its positive reviews. We were not disappointed. It's essentially like a motor inn, two stories high with the rooms accessed from an outdoor “hallway.” Our standard, king-bed room faced the back gardens, which is what I had requested. It was simple but very clean, and the air conditioning worked well. We had arrived after spending the day touring Ek Balam and Valladolid, and swimming in a cenote, so we needed to cool off and have a shower right away. The shower was large with decent water pressure. We then walked around the gardens, which were lovely and interesting. They contained some fake ruins near the pool, such as a stone turtle, a miniature mayan pyramid, and a strange wall of skulls. The hotel was only a couple of kilometres from the Chichen Itza turnoff, and there was a pathway along the highway, so we knew we’d made a good choice for going to the ruins early the next morning.

 The bed was comfortable, and we had a good sleep. We arose at 6:30 am so that we could have breakfast right at 7 am when the restaurant opened. We had prepaid for breakfast when we booked, and we were able to order off the menu. Breakfast was very good, and it was great that service started early enough that people can get to the ruins for the 8 am opening time. After breakfast, we walked to Chichen Itzá. There was a well-worn path beside the road, so this wasn’t difficult. After our visit, we walked back to Hotel Puerto Chichen. We certainly appreciated that the hotel was close enough to be able to do this. We also appreciated the 12 pm checkout time, because, we still had time to shower and have a dip in the refreshing pool before we had to check out. Then we changed into fresh clothes, checked out, and went to the hotel restaurant for their excellent and reasonable buffet lunch. We had originally booked in a different hotel near the back entrance to Chichen Itza, but then learned that the back entrance was closed, and there had been some kind of dispute about the ownership of that hotel, resulting in tourists being forced to leave. So, Hotel Puerto Chichen was our second choice, but we were very happy and comfortable there, and we also thought it was reasonably priced.



We stayed at an Airbnb down the road from this hotel, we were looking for a place that offered a good array of vegan options. This hotel restaurant achieved that and more. We loved it so much we went five times over two days. We wish we knew about this hotel before we booked our Airbnb, because it was a lovely hotel and they were very welcoming. Alejandro waited on us every day, he was very kind and caring, looking after our every need, and giving us insightful information about the local area, activities and the mayan people. The hotel has a lovely pool, great food and the rooms look beautiful as well. This is also a 20 minute walk to Chichen Itza, the only hotel this close. We highly recommend this hotel for couples, families or solo travellers. (see attached a photo of the lovely Alejandro, do you let him know we sent you)

we went to Pista to relax and get some sun in. This place is great, it has everything a hotel and a restaurant. The Rooms are brand new and have the best shower we had so far. A must visit when you want to visit Chichen Itza and need to stay a night.

We stayed a night here as a way of getting into Chichen Itza first thing. It’s a lovely little hotel 2 mins drive from the ruins with large modern rooms and a good restaurant. We stayed on the ground floor. We had a massive kingsized bed in a cool air conditioned room. The shower and bathroom were small but modern and clean. It was a quiet and relaxed nights sleep. We also dined in the hotel restaurant which was great for vegan and veggie food, with helpful, attentive service. The only downsides were the outdoor pool (a bit dated/underwhelming) and the absence of Wi-Fi in room. Free Wi-Fi was limited to the lobby. We left early to be in the line for Chichen Itza by 745. Being one of the first on site really is worth it. We had the temples almost to ourselves and a good 90 mins exploring the whole site before most of the crowds arrived. Worth noting - we had a quick explore around the town of Piste in the evening. There’s not a lot to it and most of the restaurants we saw didn’t look like they were worth visiting - particularly if you don’t eat meat. We’d recommend staying here - a comfortable room in a nice hotel and a perfect place from which to explore Chichen Itza.
