Grand Hotel Excelsior

非常值得推薦，房間沒有任何異味，裝修簡潔時尚，是我喜歡的酒店風了

늦게 도착했지만 체크인 빨랐습니다. 가까운 저녁먹을 곳을 알려준 유쾌한 호텔리어도 기억에 남습니다. 넓은 객실과 욕실도 좋았습니다.

We visited Montepulciano for the wine and then looked for somewhere to stay. This place seemed to fit the bill, about 15 minutes away with lots of 4* hotels at low prices. How lucky we were. The town is the strangest place. This town has has about 50 hotels but only 10 open, the rest boarded-up, unloved or simply abandoned with weeds growing out of roofs, carparks etc. It's an industrial archaeolgists paradise and gives a foretaste of how nature reclaims civilisation. It turns out that, about 20 years ago, 2000 visitors per day flocked to the Thermal Spas for 'wellness' and health trips. Those hoards of trippers have dropped to a dribble. It is the place that time forgot. Taking pot luck, we chose the Excelsior, which looked like the most imposing hotel on the Main Drag. The hotel is faded glory. Simple rooms with high ceilings. Nice views from large windows. The bed was very firm. The bathroom was clean. Describing the rooftop pool and sun-terrace as 'fabulous' would be going way too far. A simple buffet breakfast was included. The hotel is 2-3 stars. It was plain & comfortable - and the management deserve a Gold Star for keeping it going as the town dies around them. Being about 25 miles from the Tuscany hot-spot of Sienna helps them I suppose. If it wasn't for a coach party from Devon, we'd have been just about the only people there in the last week of July. No wonder the chambermaid couldn't wait to get into our room from 0800. Grrrr. We stayed on a Friday night, about 200 metres from the open air 'Club Forti'. Eventually the music stopped at 2am. Which spoiled it a bit. Ideal for an overnight stop - ten minutes off the main A1 Autostrada. And you can tell your friends that you've seen what Harrogate could be like in 20 years if Bettys Tea Shop closes.

An absolutely beautiful hotel. We were a very large family for our sons wedding. Accommodations were wonderful staff was excellent and we booked ahead for group dinners each night and they were excellent. Great service by car and bus to the wedding location. This hotel I believe is family run and they were terrific to us. We highly recommend. The location is great to see the Val d'Orcia and the Thermal Baths of Chianciano, wine tasting and much more.

L’albergo, in apparenza, sembra caratterizzato da uno stile Belle Epoque ma in realtà è coevo dell’età d’oro del termalismo quando Chianciano era luogo d’incontro e di svago della borghesia nostrana e alcuni ambienti sono ancora sfarzosi come erano a quel tempo, ormai lontano. Oggi questa “grandeur” è un miraggio presto disvelato in quanto il prezzo modico, il servizio essenziale e modesto, la ristorazione da mensa aziendale, le camere vetuste e scricchiolanti, i bagni vecchi e poco efficienti con poca cura per la pulizia (in vari giorni le lenzuola non sono mai state cambiate) rendono l’albergo degno di un due stelle.

Arredamento bellissimo. Tutto vintage. Forse troppo. Aria condizionata top. Piscina carina. Niente di che. Bisogna andare su una passerella x accedere alla struttura. Colazione niente di che. La ricevuta la devi chiedere se la vuoi. E caliamo un velo. Sai. Ci sta. Distrazione. I tappeti delle scale tutti rotti. Tende scale rotte. Tappeti ai piani consumati. Probabilmente saranno gli ultimi soldi che vedranno da me.
