Spire View at the Galleon Restaurant

Great place for a stopover en route to our family in the North East. Very large comfortable room ( Chatsworth room). Spotlessly clean, nice bathroom, good shower, comfy huge bed. Pleasant decor without a scuff or scratch in sight. Great idea to have breakfast items out on the landing to self select and serve either out there or in your room. Lots of choice for a continental breakfast. Only small negative is WiFi a bit patchy and warned not secure. One of us had no problems with it but other kept dropping out. Downstairs is a phenomenally popular steak restaurant with reasonably priced tasty offerings and good service. Free parking so close to Town Centre is a bonus.

Check-in was easy with limited, free onsite parking, we never struggled to get a space whilst there. Room itself and adjoining bathroom were clean and spacious so no issues there either. You can exit the room via the restaurant or via the fire-escape leading to the car-park, not an issue for us, but you might want to check access arrangements if mobility is limited and restaurant is not open. Accommodation is well located, very close to the city centre but far enough away from any noisy revellers, the Restaurant bar is also available to guests for as long as the restaurant is open. Continental buffet breakfast was included in the price and was laid out in the corridor between the bedrooms comprising; pastries, bread, juices, teabags, pod coffee machine, milk, yoghurt, cereals, preserves and kettle/toaster etc. Overall, we enjoyed our stay though there were a couple of minor niggles; popping down one evening to buy one last drink to take back to the room, we were served immediately but got caught behind a large group of youngsters splitting a sizeable food order about six ways, with predictable queries and amendments along the way. Because there is apparently only one card reader I had to wait for that lengthy process to complete before I could pay for the drinks, not ideal at the end of an evening when you just want to turn-in and mind your own business. Also, having attended parkrun on Saturday, the cleaner who was in the hallway clearing away the buffet asked us if we’d like the room freshening that day and fresh towels bringing, we agreed that would be nice. On leaving the room a little later however, I did see her again and thanked her for offering to refresh the room, but said not to worry about changing the towels, our existing ones would do us for our final morning. On returning to the room later that evening, the room had not in fact been made up at all, with the Please Make Up the Room sign still hanging on the door, bed still unmade and bins unemptied. Neither of those things show-stoppers, but does prevent the review from being Five Stars. Would I recommend this place and stay here again? Definitely, could the customer experience be tweaked to be even better, almost certainly.

Friendly, welcoming B&B. Very comfortable and luxurious, actually surprising considering floor size of the accommodation above the steak house. Extremely large bed, ensuite to hand, 65" tv screen. Continental breakfast available, along with tea and coffee, water etc all to hand. All for a very god value, and will be visiting again.

Visitd on a suday night nothing was to much trouble Food was spot on cooked exactly as requested Vert tasty We also stayed overnight in the rooms above very nice massive bed , room very clean and tastfully decorated with ensuit and walk in shower. Continetal Breakfast set outside you room just help you self nice and light after a big meal the night before. All at at good price Will definatly return

Beautiful clean modern room, very spacious with 2 easy chairs, plenty of wardrobe and drawer space, tv, lovely and warm. Good shower with toiletries. Complimentary breakfast area with yoghurts, cereal, bread for toast, fruit, tea and coffee. Very well thought out

First of all, a massive thank you to Matthew who was the point of contact who arranged everything so smoothly despite my late arrival. The room was great value for money, was large and the bed had enough pillows for any reasonable human being to use. If you read this Matthew- thanks once again- you need to sort the shower out and maybe some more soundproofing if possible, but otherwise, it was a pleasure.
