Yesterday the two of us enjoyed a spectacularly good lunch at this hotel. The menu du jour has included a great buffet hors d'oeuvre for a long time, yesterday it broke records. A choice of perhaps fifteen, I lost count, individually prepared dishes each totally different, each beautifully curated and simply interestingly delicious. Also crevettes, but matched with an exquisite mayonnaise obviously maison. Plus charcuterie for those with no imagination or ambition. To follow, Grondin. I had never heard of this nor seen the name anywhere in twenty years living in France. It is said (presumably by Google) to be a kind of Rouget, but not red. This small fish has a wonderful, full, flavour and it is also very filling, Phenomenal. Whoever chooses the wine knows what they are doing. We were content with a pichet of white Bordeaux and it was a perfectly good accompaniment to the comestibles. And then a good choice of conventional desserts. The service is very professional, friendly and courteous and the surroundings pretty nice, with, for clement times, a great terrace overlooking the Charente. This for 18€. Absolutely great so I recommend you clamber off the N10 and head to the centre of the town to this hotel. Finally I never publish my opinions unless a place has blown my mind. This did.
