Hôtel Restaurant Beau-Rivage

After nearly 50 years of wandering France we are now accustomed to disappointment but this was not certainly the case at this hotel. The situation is superb, the restaurant and the terrace overlooking the river and gardens is excellent, some would say stunning, remembering this is a 2 star Logis. The menu offering is very good and the dishes imaginative. We have stopped in many a 3 star hotel that has offered service far inferior. The rooms although very clean and well equipped are in need of a lick of paint but the staff were excellent, friendly and efficient. There is no lift so stairs to the 2nd floor is an effort for some. It also has good parking.

Yesterday the two of us enjoyed a spectacularly good lunch at this hotel. The menu du jour has included a great buffet hors d'oeuvre for a long time, yesterday it broke records. A choice of perhaps fifteen, I lost count, individually prepared dishes each totally different, each beautifully curated and simply interestingly delicious. Also crevettes, but matched with an exquisite mayonnaise obviously maison. Plus charcuterie for those with no imagination or ambition. To follow, Grondin. I had never heard of this nor seen the name anywhere in twenty years living in France. It is said (presumably by Google) to be a kind of Rouget, but not red. This small fish has a wonderful, full, flavour and it is also very filling, Phenomenal. Whoever chooses the wine knows what they are doing. We were content with a pichet of white Bordeaux and it was a perfectly good accompaniment to the comestibles. And then a good choice of conventional desserts. The service is very professional, friendly and courteous and the surroundings pretty nice, with, for clement times, a great terrace overlooking the Charente. This for 18€. Absolutely great so I recommend you clamber off the N10 and head to the centre of the town to this hotel. Finally I never publish my opinions unless a place has blown my mind. This did.

We had a room at the back overlooking the gardens and the river which was very pleasant. The room was spacious and very clean and well decorated. Unfortunately there were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room. The toilet was in a separate room to the shower but unfortunately did not have a washbasin so you had to go one from one room to another to wash your hands. We had the windows open at night because it was warm but unfortunately there is an endless problem with traffic noise which went on all night. We ate in the hotel and the food was very good. Breakfast was also good with plenty of choice.

The hotel doesn't look anything special from outside dressed as it is in it's 1960's facade. However, the outside terrace looking over the extremely well kept gardens leading down to the river is a lovely location. The menu d' jour was extremely good value and the choices in the buffet were excellent.

Bien pour un court séjour. Bel hôtel mais qui mériterait un rajeunissement. Leschambres classiques sont minuscules et idem pour la salle de douche…des années 80…choisir les chambres donnant sur la Charente avec un balcon. Gros problème en cas de canicule…pas de clim uniquemebt un ventilateur. Attention pour les grosses valises, pas d’ascenceur… Belle terrasse pour diner avec réservation. Le parking est gratuit. L’acceuil courtois sans plus… Petit dèjeuner correct.

Cadre agréable avec une superbe vue. Personnel très accueillant et à l’écoute. Je vous remercie pour l’attention particulière d’avoir voulu me proposer d’enlever la chaise pour y mettre mon fauteuil roulant lors de l’installation à la table sur la magnifique terrasse et sa vue splendide. Le repas était délicieux tout le long. Personnel très serviable et souriant! C’est un véritable sans faute. Bravo Idéal également pour un séjour romantique éventuel. Les sanitaires sont très propres. A noter pour ma part sans grande gêne ni gravité qu’il peut peut-être y avoir la possibilité de mettre une petite barre d’appui. Très beau papier peint rouge dans le couloir j’adore. Au plaisir de revenir dans ce bel établissement au cadre incitant à la rêverie et au farniente en famille ou en couple.
