Estancia la Porteña de Areco

My family went for a day ranch experience. Welcome was good, food was great, horse back riding was very good but there nothing else. The owners were not there and no one showed us the working ranch, actually there was not cattle on the ranch (they told us that cattle are 3miles away by the river). Basically we spent $100/pp for 1hr of horse back ride and a nice lunch.

Our stay at La Portena was the worst experience my family and I have ever had traveling in Argentina. Or anywhere in the world for that matter, and we have been to 30+ countries. It is shameful that a historic building with so much significance and architectural beauty has been neglected in this way by its owners. The pictures speak for themselves. Not only were the rooms and bathrooms dirty and smelly, there were bugs on the windows, around the lights and all over the dining/breakfast area. I sat down to have dinner when we arrived and there was a dead fly in my soup. No apologies were offered when I brought this to the staff's attention, they just took the plate away. The heaters in the room did not work and the few, thin logs available to use in the fireplaces burnt quickly. It was freezing cold and neither my husband and I nor my children were able to sleep. The following day a technician came to repair the gas heaters. They were in such dire shape and so old that I was concerned about a gas leak or malfunction. We decided it was unsafe to stay and we left, three days before our scheduled departure. As an Argentine living in California, I felt ashamed for my country. Such neglect and disregard for guests who are paying hefty rates creates a sense of untrustworthiness when the country so desperately needs tourism as a vital employment generating industry. Shame on you, Gonzalo Susini.

Es un lugar al que fui en familia y pasamos un hermoso fin de semana. La habitación cómoda y con buena temperatura, la cama y las almohadas cómodas. El casco de la antigua estancia y la casona reflejan que en algún tiempo tuvo un gran esplendor, ojalá no decaiga el mantenimiento, el lugar lo merece. Se respira historia en un entorno agradable y relajado. Destaco la amabilidad del personal.

La estancia esta muy bien a grandes rasgos, pero no tan bien cuando se mira en detalle. Hay sectores con cosas y aparatos oxidados y abandonados, algunas construcciones en mal estado y detalles descuidados en las construcciones principales. No es el sitio ideal para un dia de campo donde buscas privacidad con tu/s acompañante/s, ya que el dueño toma un rol de anfitrión que te invita a su casa, interactuando permanentemente y se almuerza en mesas grandes con el resto de los visitantes. Si te va conocer gente, la modalidad te va a gustar. Es mas cara que otras opciones, posiblemente por la relevancia histórica. El trato es amabilísimo por parte de todos. El asado muy bien, la cabalgata también. El ombú es imponente.

Hicimos un viaje en familia y nos alojamos 5 días en la estancia. La verdad que todo fue maravilloso, el lugar es muy hermoso y Gonzalo y Catalina son excelentes anfitriones. Estuvimos 3 de los 5 días en donde no hubieron otros huéspedes más que nosotros en la estancia, y Gonzalo junto con el personal se preocuparon en atendernos como reyes. Hicimos cabalgatas y comimos unos asados deliciosos. El lugar además es de una significancia histórica muy grande. Muchas gracias por todo!

Toda la experiencia fue muy agradable, con mi familia disfrutamos mucho la visita. Tuvimos la oportunidad de andar en caballo, almorzar un rico asado, bailar y terminar catando muchos dulces y postres argentinos.
