"A hotel and a room that are nothing like a 3-star "Privilège" ... On the occasion of the 666 Festival, we came to sleep in this hotel. I am myself surprised to have to put a negative review given all the positive reviews that I have seen concerning the Henri IV hotel on Tripadvisor. The positives: - The bedding is of good quality - The room is rather cute but not worth its price (Privilège double 90€) - The location in relation to the Festival (13.5km) - The place is calm and pleasant despite the nearby train station. The negatives: - No reception from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday (so no physical reception for us who arrived around 3 p.m.). - The cleanliness of the bathroom (see photos). - The friendliness/professionalism of the staff, especially at check-out. Indeed, just before leaving the room we received a call from the reception at 11:03 informing us in a dry and cold tone that we had to leave the room as soon as possible (check-out being at 11:00). We simply had the feeling of being a nuisance. The receptionist was afraid that we had left without paying .... When we arrived at the reception, we were not asked at all how our stay went. The only words from the receptionist were "hello, the room has not been paid, it's been so much with the taxes" (pay and leave). Once again, we had the feeling of being a nuisance and having to leave the premises as soon as possible. We are very disappointed by our experience at the Henri IV hotel."

"Ein sehr charmanter Ort - in der Nähe von Saint Emilion. Die Zimmer waren groß und unspottbar sauber. Perfekt renoviert mit Respekt für die ursprünglichen Teile in diesen Jahrhundert alten Gebäuden. Nur vier Zimmer natürlich machen die Erfahrung noch personalisierter. Die Gastgeberin war sehr freundlich und dienstlich - und als zusätzlichen Nutzen, die eine Küche und ein geräumiges Wohn-/Esszimmer zur Verfügung stehen für die Gäste eröffnet auch interessante Treffen mit neuen Leuten über das Kochen oder ein Essen. Jedes Frühstück wird mit frischem Brot und Hausgemüse serviert. Was für eine schöne Möglichkeit, Ihren Tag zu beginnen. Entspannen im Pool nach einem Tag der Sehenswürdigkeit war auch eine sehr willkommene Erfahrung - nur genießen Sie den Frieden und Ruhe. Dieser Ort ist sehr empfohlen! Echt einzigartig - für diejenigen, die etwas aus der besiegten Touristenbahn schätzen."

"So eine schöne Perle mitten im Weingebiet von Saint-Émilion. Wir wurden herzlich empfangen und durften schon um 11 Uhr unser schönes Zimmer beziehen. Der Winzer hat uns viel über seinen Wein erzählt und wir haben natürlich davon degustiert. Ein sehr hochwertiger Wein. Der Preis ist überraschend niedrig. Ein sehr ruhiger Ort. Wer einen Touristen Hotspot erwartet wird hier enttäuscht. Eine schöne Terrasse. Stilvolles Ambiente. Wir waren sehr glücklich mit unserem Zimmer und hatten sogar einen Balkon. Der Pool ist perfekt für gegen Abend noch etwas die Sonne zu geniessen und ein Buch zu lesen. Sehr zu empfehlen ist das Essen im Restaurant. Ja, die Klimaanlage fehlt, aber wir hätten sie eh nicht gebraucht. Durch die alten dicken Mauern bleibt das Zimmer kühl."

Hôtel Restaurant la Boule d'Or

"Unfortunately, I’ve had to update the review I wrote in 2016. Between then and now we continued to come here practically every year and were impressed with the new management - until this year when the ferocious hotel guard dog attacked us when we arrived at the hotel. It should have been tied up/restrained/muzzled but wasn’t and when we arrived with our small terrier (on a lead) and opened the entrance door of the hotel, a huge snarling Rottweiler/mastiff type cross charged out without warning and attacked our dog (hotel is deemed pet-friendly and we had booked a room with our dog). The dog belongs to the hotel owners and lives on the premises. My teenage son is strong and managed to pull the dog off our dog, which continued to scream in terror for a further ten minutes. All our belongings were strewn across the pavement in the chaos and in the course of restraining the guard dog, my son was bitten by it. I’m writing this because it was a horrendous experience and we were very shaken, but I’m not convinced the hotel owners fully accept the responsibility that comes with owning a dangerous dog. The owner of the hotel and dog told us that it’s normal for dogs to be aggressive and that just the other week there had been a dogfight in the restaurant!! Then when I said I wanted a doctor to look at my son’s bite (which had gone through his sock, pierced the skin and was bleeding), I felt belittled by the owner who said it was a national holiday so surgeries were closed and surely I wouldn’t want to bother a hospital for that. The owner also said he didn’t understand why I hadn’t shut the hotel door when I saw the dog coming (but he later admitted that the dog had run through the hotel from the garden) as that should surely be my instinct. It was most unpleasant to feel I was being blamed for his dog being out of control. There was no time to shut any doors! The dog charged through so fast and my immediate reaction was to try and stop his dog from biting mine (which is a small/medium sized terrier on a lead and had done nothing to provoke the attack). I am in no doubt that had my son not intervened - which was extremely brave because the dog was enormous and ferocious - our own dog would have died. I write this review with sadness, because the hotel is otherwise a good hotel. We have been coming here for around 10 years and the restaurant and its staff are always fantastic. However, whilst the owners excused the incident as an unfortunate incident, had my son not been quick-witted and strong, the outcome could have been much more serious and therefore I can no longer recommend this hotel. The next day I asked if the owners had logged the incident in an incident/injury report book and they hadn’t. I therefore reported the actions of the dog to the police; I declined to make a formal charge as I am not interested in ‘punishing’ or seeking recompense - but I do want to make sure that future guests are aware of what happened and that"
