I've stayed in three Africamps and this was by far the best. The tent and amenities are the same (except there was no hot bath at this one), but of course each place is very different. The tents are nestled in the "bush" or slightly above, and this gives a feeling of intimacy and privacy. There weren't many people when we stayed, so it was very quiet (I guess it might be a bit noisier at the height of the holiday season) and we quickly moved from enjoying the pool to the dam. We just spent hours and hours there with the kids, it was magical. We hired an oar for the day which helped us to used the boats, the damn is quite small but it was nice to move around. The views are amazing and I'm sure the walks are lovely if you have the energy! I had expected there to be a hot tub, which I thought came with all Africamps, and there are two tents with hot tubs but my fault for not paying closer attention. However, with the dam who needs the hot tub! We loved our tent, number 4, and I think 3-5 tents and 8 onwards are the best bets (from 8 they are higher - good views, not necessarily better though). In terms of amenities, I do think they could provide one free bag of firewood, and also just be more generous with additional dishtowels, bowls and serving plates - it's all very basic and doesn't really meet the needs of 5 people when staying, so bring some extras when going is my advice, if you can. The little shop is useful and the site feels safe. On a very different topic - it felt striking to me from the brochure that there appears little diversity in the ownership of property of the farms signing partnerships with Africamps, an interesting insight into South Africa.
