Casa da Azenha

We were looking for a place to stay in the Douro Valley and found CA. Very charming with very nice and helpful staff. Maria checked us in and from there were well taken care of by the husband-wife team of Diogo and Alzira. Ginja (sp?), the little dachshund who patrols the grounds, was a cute touch. Great location to explore the Douro Valley. From here, we visited Lamego, Régua, and Pinhão. I would definitely return to this place.

From our first greeting by Alzira and Diogo to our departing day breakfast we felt welcomed. Despite a language barrier, Alzira and Diogo gave us a warm introduction to the beautiful Casa and grounds and helped us get settled. Our room was cozy, comfortable and very clean. The breakfasts were great, including a homemade cake by Diogo, and one by Alvira two days later, fresh fruit from the garden was always included. On our first morning we met Maria, the manager who gave us a complete introduction and tour of the casa.She was warm, friendly, sincere and a wealth of information. We relied on her advice for visiting different areas as well as restaurants. We were never disappointed. Maria was our go to for anything we needed. Simply put, we would definitely choose Casa da Azenha if we were to return to the Douro valley Regua area, we loved it.

Beautiful guesthouse set in its own extensive gardens.We stayed in a separate bungalow in the grounds.Plenty of space and well equipped.A good shady verandah - an ideal place for a sundowner.The staff are enthusiastic, great fun. and good at organising restaurant reservations or winery visits.

Peaceful beautiful location with great itinerary planned. Gardens are calming, the pool enjoying great views. Super location to explore from. Exceptionally clean and turn down service. Breakfast was included with fruit from garden and a freshly baked cake. Would have liked local honey but even the jam was home made. Our bathroom Was a bit old fashioned but fully functional and clean with toiletries. Great local restaurants.

If you are looking for modernity, buzz and nightlife, then Casa da Azenha is not for you. If, however, you want a retreat where you can physically feel your shoulders dropping, it’s perfect! Firstly, it’s beautiful: the old house, the lush gardens and vines, and the views of the valley. Secondly, it is so peaceful: just the sound of the occasional cockerel and the low chatter of guests. There aren’t really any restaurants in walking distance (apart from Quinta Parecha, but you must book). However, we took to eating out at lunchtime, and then spending the evening at the pool and having a light supper on the verandah, which was so much more relaxing. We also took advantage of one of Marie’s picnic baskets, which was really enjoyed by all. The breakfasts around the big table were really laid back, meeting other guests, and with the lovely Becas walking around checking everyone was ok and giving local advice. The outdoor pool at Parque Fluvial is a picturesque day out when the weather is hot, there are some stunning drives and river trips to do, and air-conditioned wineries to visit - but the kids (12 and 9) we were just happiest back at the Casa in the pool (temperatures were into the 40s though!).

Hemos pasado 4 días geniales en esta casa en agosto, con una anfitriona encantadora María...que se ofrece a ayudarte en todo lo que necesites. El lugar es precioso y la piscina un lugar para relajarte. Totalmente recomendable para conocer la zona del Duoro, nos llevamos un gran recuerdo de este viaje. Fuimos con nuestro perro (Bale), que aunque pensamos que no haría buenas migas con el perro de la casa se llevaron bien. Un lugar al que volveríamos. Muchas gracias por todo.
