The Llanelwedd Arms Hotel

Yes it really is a MOST WELCOMING establishment perhaps on that basis the best hotel we have stayed in. My wife and I spent her birthday on the Saturday evening with our lovely niece & nephew who so kindly arranged the accommodation completely. On arrival we were immediately put at ease by Paul a member of the family owners of the hotel who made us all feel so at home and at ease. The bar and restaurant facilities here are perfect and homely in a truly traditional style. The food is excellent with a much varied menu although we chose to enjoy the excellent Thai cuisine that is on offer and not to be missed. Parking facilities are perfect too and the location just off the bridge in central Builth is most acceptable. The only downside is if anyone has mobility issues, which my wife and self struggle with . The staircase is steep up to the bedrooms and without a lift it tends to become problematical. However we managed to surmount that issue and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Llanelwedd Arms

Disappointing Experience Despite Some Positives I recently stayed at the Llanelwedd Arms, and unfortunately, my overall experience was disappointing, despite a few positives. The Good: Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by a friendly lady, and the food prepared by the chef was excellent. I really enjoyed the meal, which was the only highlight of my stay. The Bad: However, the service and overall customer experience were far from satisfactory. The first issue occurred when I inquired about potential allergens in a dish due to severe allergies. The staff’s initial response was casual and unhelpful, requiring me to press further for clarification. While the chef eventually confirmed the ingredients, this should have been handled with much more care and certainty from the start, considering the seriousness of food allergies. Another issue arose when I was served rice with my meal. I wasn’t informed that there would be an additional charge for it, and I was surprised when it appeared on my bill. I assumed it was included as part of the meal, and at no point was I made aware of any extra cost. While the charge was small, the lack of transparency and communication left a bad impression. The most frustrating issue, however, was with the men’s restroom. The lighting sensor inside the cubicle is located outside the room, causing the light to turn off while I was inside. Thankfully, I had a flashlight, but this is clearly a safety concern, particularly for anyone with a disability or impaired vision. When I raised this issue with the gentleman in charge, his response was dismissive and unhelpful. He suggested an impractical solution (opening the door and waving my hand), which was not only rude but also unsafe. When I tried to discuss the matter further, he repeatedly walked away, making me feel unheard and disrespected. When I later addressed these issues in an email, the response from the staff member was defensive and unhelpful. Instead of acknowledging the problems and offering a solution, the staff insisted that I was mistaken and dismissed my concerns. It felt like they were more interested in defending themselves than addressing the legitimate issues I raised. Even the claim that the gentleman in charge was not walking away from me seemed disingenuous, especially when I had witnessed it firsthand. Final Thoughts: While the food was good and there was a warm greeting at the start, the poor service, lack of transparency, and dismissive attitudes made for a very unsatisfactory experience. The response to my complaints was unhelpful and failed to resolve any of the issues. Unfortunately, due to how I was treated and the way my concerns were handled, I would not consider staying here again.

Lovely friendly super clean hotel serving extremely good food .lovely atmosphere wood burner super welcoming after a long day outside will definitely return it's so good to visit some where where the colleagues remember your name nothing is too much trouble. Great base for exploring the amazing views around builth wells
