I have emailed The Garden House providing a chance to privately discuss the issues with my stay, but unfortunately I not received any response. My sister and I stayed at the Garden House in August to attend a wedding. As a wheelchair user, I was reassured that the Garden House had rooms on the ground floor with one room having grab rails for better access, so I was confident making a reservation. I had called and made it clear when making my booking that I required wheelchair access, having also put this on my enquiry form, my booking notes and registration form however this request was disregarded. Upon arrival I was told I had been placed upstairs in room 5. Being unable to access my room is both upsetting and frustrating. Unfortunately, our room was not changed and we were told we would need to access room 5 from the backdoor. This backdoor was up the gravel path, an impossible surface to navigate in a wheelchair independently. Additionally, this entrance is not accessible for a wheelchair user due to the large step and extra door to gain entrance. I was unable to use the shower/bath facilities during my stay as these were also inaccessible. My sister and I did not have breakfast due to the difficulties we had getting from the top floor to the bottom floor where the dining room is located. There were aspects to our stay that would be wrong of me not to mention. The room was exceptionally clean, the directions to the hotel were very clear and the member of staff who checked us in did the best she could to be polite to us and apologise for the situation. The Garden House is in a beautiful location and had my room been placed downstairs I am certain my review would have been very different, however I feel let down and choose to warn others with mobility issues of my experience.
