This was our fourth visit and although we haven’t been for over 10 years the hotel was just as nice as we remembered it, large open spaces, clean and the grounds well kept, although the trees are higher than when we were last there. We were taken to our room in block 7, it was a nice light airy room, but we couldn’t understand why there was a window from the bedroom into the bathroom, although it did have shutters that you could close. As part Iberostar's sustainability drive there was no bottled water but glass bottles were provided and there was a water dispenser just outside our room, beer and soft drinks were in the fridge. As it was early evening when we arrived we unpacked and then went for dinner in the buffet restaurant, on the way we met our concierge, Alexandre. He was very pleasant, welcomed us to the hotel and said if there was anything we wanted to see him. We had dinner and then walked up to reception, we came across Alexandre again and he booked tables for us at the speciality restaurants, Japanese, French, Mexican and the Italian steakhouse. We then went in the lobby bar which was surprisingly quiet, there was only one girl serving behind the bar and she appeared as though she didn’t want to be there, spilling drinks all over. The breakfast buffet had plenty of selection, in fact too much as I wanted to try lots of things, my wife was more sensible and stuck to fruit and omelettes. Lunch was in the Spiaggia buffet, good selection but very busy as close to the beach and pool. Dinner was in the Spiaggia, Italian steakhouse, of all the meals this was the most disappointing, the menu was quite limited, I had beef tenderloin that was served with mashed potato and vegetables, I actually got chips and no vegetables, my wife had a chicken skewer that had a few pieces of ”lemon veggies” with it and mashed potato, she asked for a baked potato as they had some on the counter but was told no, chips or mashed potato. All the other tables had drinks orders taken but ours, I had to call a waitress over as she was passing to order wine. There was no follow up, nobody came to ask if we wanted any more water or wine, a very disappointing meal and poor service ! During the next few days we dined at the Japanese, good entertainment form the chef and good service from the waitress, the Mexican, again good food and service an finally El Colonial, the French restaurant, this was the best one, very good food and service, just a shame that the steak only came with sauteed rustic potatos, some vegetables would have been nice. The 24 hour Star cafe had some lovely cakes and coffee. we used to go to the shows on previous visits but on this occasion we were always too tired to make them. All the staff were friendly and efficient, the hotel was spotless, always being cleaned and the gardeners worked to keep the grounds tidy. As with many hotels too many people like to put their towels on sunbeds to reserve them and then leave them empty for hou
